ENB presets are ruining my fps and I don't know which one to actually use

I've got a solid PC, decent GPU, but every ENB preset I download tanks my frames. I'm running USSEP, SkyUI, the usual suspects. Graphics look fine vanilla with just a couple texture mods, but the second I enable any ENB my fps goes from 60 to like 35-40 and it stays there even with lower settings.

Is this just how it works? Do I need to bite the bullet and accept the performance hit, or am I installing these wrong? I see people posting screenshots with ENBs that look incredible and I'm wondering if they're just running on beefier hardware or if there's an actual sweet spot I'm missing.

Also which presets are actually worth the performance cost? I'm not looking for ultra-realistic cinema mode, just something that makes the game look less washed out without destroying my fps. Tried a couple popular ones and they either look too dark or too saturated.

ENBs are just heavy, that's the reality - even the lighter ones will cost you 15-25 fps depending on your GPU. The people posting those gorgeous screenshots? Yeah, they're either on high-end cards, using lower res, or running at 30-40 fps and not mentioning it. It sucks but it's how it is.

That said, you might be installing wrong or picking the wrong preset for your setup. What GPU are you running? And when you say you tried lower settings - did you actually mess with the ENB ini, or just toggle the in-game options? A lot of presets ship with effects you can dial back without losing the whole look. Disable ambient occlusion, lower the quality on shadow detail, turn off depth of field if it's enabled - stuff like that buys you 5-10 fps sometimes.

Also worth checking: are you using Community Shaders instead? They're lighter than ENB and give you a decent visual boost without completely gutting performance. Not the same look, but if you're just trying to punch up vanilla's washed-out feel without going full cinematic, that might be your answer.

If you want to stick with ENB, grab one that's specifically tuned for performance - there are some out there that skip the heavy post-processing. Honestly though if you're at 35-40 with an ENB and that bothers you, you might just need to accept that vanilla + some texture work is your sweet spot. Nothing wrong with that.
