Gerdur's "free supplies"

The Seeker

New Member
Just curious, what was the best random enchanted jewelry you ever got from Gerdur, when you first arrived in Riverwood at the beginning of the game?

I've gotten a ring of heath one time, and on my high elf i made yesterday, I got a Necklace of Water Breathing, which was pretty cool to have at the very beginning of the game. Kind of sucks to get water breathing way late in the game where it really isn't as important. Well, water breathing isn't that important to begin with, but I was excited about it at the time. Useful to get pearls, Nordic barnacles, and catch fish. I felt so lucky, I was like "hell yea!" lol.

It would be really lucky/nice to get an archery enchantment from her, so you can disenchant it and have one of the most valuable enchantments/ (could be wrong but i think it might be the most valuable as far as normal enchantments go) to sell right of the bat.

I don't think I've ever seen enchanted jewelry in Gerdur's "free supplies", however Alvor always has something like a Ring of Minor Archery. Kinda weird - but then again, I usually only take the healing potions, so it really doesn't matter. :)

Only ever seen her with enchanted items on 4 occasions, however on one of these i got 2 items, one a ring of health and a ring of smithing, ideal at the time for the character i was playing.

I've never seen her with enchanted jewelry, but she always seems to have a good variety of food and jewelry. Sometimes in my games, she has something gold, usually a ring. Most of the time, though, she will have a silver necklace or ring.

Who else goes back when they're a rich and powerful dragonborn, and stuffs a few gems or gold into her nightstand?

I never have, but now I really want to

Hehe. Behold the power of ye olde Ancient Nord Guilt Trip. I have a hard time taking from the NPCs without giving back, except for training, which I figure is the same as any friend showing another friend the ropes. Arcadia supports me heavily in the beginning, so later on I always sell her high dollar potions when she doesn't have money, to make up for it.

So wait... you can get supplies from both her and Alvor? Or is it dependent on which side you escape with. I've never escaped with a Stormie and never will.

If you side with Hadvar, Alvor will give you supplies. If you side with Ralof, Gerdur will give you supplies. I think both give you the same sort of things :)

I don't remember Gerdur having anything more valuable than regular silver jewelery for me. I have gone to Alvor more often because he lets you loot smithing supplies. Lately though I bail on my "rescuer" to get Treasure Map I to start things off in nicely in Riverwood.

What? Gerdur is giving the other Dovakiins enchanted stuff and not me? I'm kinda hurt.

Me too! I never get anything! In fact, I'm kinda in awe over what I have NOT gotten in my current incarnation that I got routinely early in the game, before. Like any kind of "boots of hauling," and any kind of bow with a paralysis enchantment. Around level 50, I finally bought iron boots for over $1600 for that enchantment, and bought an ebony bow of paralysis for over 3 grand, for the expressed purpose of destroying them at the arcane enchanter!

I honestly don't really take much notice except that it's usually a couple of potions and food. I am just.."Gimme, Gimme" and I am on my way. :p

I would have to agree with you. Archery IMO is the best enchantment. I am always and archer and enchant my helmet, ring and gauntlets. Makes for a very powerful weapon :)

Where is this treasure map you speak of?

I have taken from the Dawnstar chest, many many times when first starting out (hangs head in shame) I really should pay back those kittehs..

The first treasure map is in a small bandit camp that's really easy to hit on your way out of Helgen. There's a split in the road just past the guardian stones. The road to Riverwood goes to the right, but if you go a little way down the road to the left instead, you'll see a camp up on the mountainside to your left.

Once you have the map, you will find the treasure chest in a fallen tree across the river from the Riverwood mill. The treasure isn't there unless you've found and read the map.

OH! I have that map! I always hit that bandit camp when I am bored or testing out a new weapon (you'd think they'd learn) it's just down the road from Lakeview Manor. Thanks! I'm goin' treasure hunting ;)

I once got a necklace of major(?) archery from her when I arrived (+20% I think). It was pretty cool to get, but kind of pointless 'cause, wouldn't ya know it, it was the only character I'd ever created that wasn't using archery. Needless to say, I started using archery.
