Hearthfire house layouts are genuinely terrible and it's wild nobody complains

I'm on my third playthrough building out Lakeview Manor and I just realized how badly designed these houses are. Like, the bedroom is upstairs but the kitchen is in the basement? You're hauling food and ingredients down two flights of stairs every time you cook. And don't even get me started on how the alchemy lab is somehow in a completely separate wing from the storage.

Compare that to any of the player homes you can buy in the holds - Breezehome, the Drunken Huntsman apartment, whatever - and they're actually laid out like people live in them. But Hearthfire? It feels like you're building a mansion designed by someone who's never actually prepared a meal in their life.

The worst part is that once you're committed to building it up you're stuck with it. You can't rearrange rooms or anything. Just... inefficient floor plans forever.

Am I the only one who finds this frustrating or does everyone else just roleplay around it?
