I'm writing a Nord mage who starts out barely able to cast a novice spell without exhausting herself, and I want that progression to feel real across maybe 15-20 chapters. But I'm worried it'll just become repetitive—"she practices, she fails, she practices again"—and lose momentum. How do you balance showing actual struggle and growth without boring your readers? Does anyone have experience pacing a fic where the payoff is incremental instead of plot-driven?
