If you couldn´t buy any of the houses, where would you want to live?

I forget what it's called, but one of the bandit camps is an ENORMOUS water cavern with a bunch of ships and woodwork platforms. It has many living quarters, most amenities (even a smelter!) and a couple ore veins. I don't know if there are any non-respawning containers though, and of course every now and then you'd have to chase off bandits who want to take over. It's a great cave though.

Broaken oar or brine water are the only 2 I can think of

The White River Watch is the place for me. Especially the epic view up in the mountain ( nicest view of Whiterun & the surroundings ) ;).

I've often wondered if you had your follower wait on that ledge, then ran down and over to the Dragonsreach Balcony, if you could see 'em. Never could be arsed to try it though.

The college is also great if you haven't done TG questline yet, because it gives you five merchants hanging out willing to buy your enchanted rings and trash robes, and sell you soul gems. Also I've found the free soul gems and alchemy reagents here and there respawn much quicker than most other places. In other words, it's a great place to live after you've crafted 200 silver rings somewhere else and just want to settle in and learn enchanting.

5 merchants? There is the guy who sells the Daedric hearts but who are the other 4?

To answer the question, the caves and hideouts like mentioned by Morgan make me drool. Some forts and castles are coveted by me as well but if it has to be a house, it would be that tiny little house with the secret bookshelf that leads to a a massive cave with tons of rooms and maybe water too. I think it's on the same road as the abandoned prison but you find a note in the house hinting that there is some mead behind the bookshelf and a huge payload once their scheme is complete. Anyone remember the name of that place?

I just want a house with an enchanting and alchemy table in the same room with lots of storage containers.....one for ingredients, one for soul gems, bookshelves for all potion recipes and related books. Then I want a joining patio with it's own forge, tanning rack, smelter, grindstone and smithing table on a nearby patio with several containers....one for ore, ingot, gems, etc. a container for weapons to be improved via smithing, one for 'to be enchanted' and one for all items ready to be sold and I want a bunch of rich merchants living all around me....some that are open 24/7.

Cracked Tusk Keep near Falkreath has everything but an arcane enchanter(a couple of those are close by in the Falkreath jarl`s longhouse and the DB Sanctuary)

it is called pinewatch and is part of the TG quest line.

No, you couldn't. The draw distance wouldn't allow for it, wish you could though.
For me, it'd probably be illinata's deep. Who doesn't want a half underwater fort?

Each of the magic trainers sells spells, soul gems, and leveled robes of their school of magic. I craft a load of enchanted rings, buy the soul gems from each of them, then sell them the rings to get back all the gold I just gave them.

the farm just outside of Ivarstead, its my favourite town in the game and the farm is so peaceful and quiet, as well as being in a beautiful place

Yeah, that's it but I just stumbled on it so maybe that's why the TG hasn't asked me to go there.

Good info. I've just been getting the Daedric hearts. I'll be visiting my house there more often.

Even though it's worse than Riften in terms of corruption, I'd still want to live somewhere in Markarth. I just CANNOT get over how gorgeous that city is, I love it.

If I had to live outside the cities... hm... that's a bit harder, I suppose I'd take Drelas' Cottage. After the crazy mage is dead, of course. Overlooking the plains of Whiterun and right by the mountains, cool.

Well it is part of the restoring the TG, I believe it is the Markarth main quest after you have done enough jobs in there to trigger it. Remember you have to do 3-4 quests in the hold to trigger the main restore quest for that hold.

Drela`s is a great choice and maybe better than Anise`s since it is more upscale as far as funishings , etc.
Anise`s doesn`t require going through a door in order to store items or sleep but thralls won`t follow you into the basement where the alchemy and enchanting stations are located like at Drela`s.
Drawback for Drela`s is that some(moral) Followers see you as a trespasser there and will not trade or dialogue unless you are outside.
The Abandoned House in Markarth is an ideal location if you like that city.

That one conpletely sunken shipwreck, since as an Argonian I can breath and no enemies can get me. I love the look of the water after the patch.

My character's living in the Embershard Mine at the moment...It'd be pretty cozy with some decorations and furniture.

That's a good spot. Water, forge, living area, handy to Riverhaven, two accessible entrances . . . I might consider that one for my next hermit character.

He's more of a fugitive than a hermit. I always take time to revisit the area now and again. Only go into nearby Riverwood for gold, jobs, or the use of the inn's alchemy table, and always under cover of a hood. The forge is of little use to a mage though. But it's a nice place.
