The Jarl made a promise he couldn't keep unless he was ready to wage a personal war with the Thalmor. You Stormcloak supporters all keep forgetting about them and the fact that they still desire to conquer all of Tamriel.
You've also reinforced that at best Ulfric is just a disgruntled guy with a bone to pick. He seems strikingly similar to the US Veteran who just a few days ago shot up a Sikh temple. At best maybe he's a John Rambo type. Sure he was wronged, but I'm not going to allow him to jeopardize all of Tamriel, Skyrim included, because of his personal grievances and traumas.
Again, it's not the right time to separate. If the Thalmor threat could first be eliminated and if the Stormcloaks were led by someone more reasonable like Brunwulf Free-Winter, then I would, without hesitation support Skyrim's independence.
