Invisibility spell glitch???

No soul gem large enough.
The Shadowcloak of Nocturnal only comes into effect when you go into stealth.
You need to cast the ability, and this will give you a buff that means when you hit Ctrl (or whatever on console), you fade out. If you're already in stealth when you cast the ability it won't work; you'll need to unstealth and re-stealth.
It does also mean, however, that if your invisibility gets uncovered, you can often run somewhere out of sight and pop into stealth again to go invisible (as long as you still have the buff.)
Also it is visually clear (no pun intended) that you are invisible, if it's working.

Also, invisibility in this game works more like chameleon. You still need to be quiet and sneaky while invisible.

Also, if you are invisible and you break into someones house and are crouched but there's someone in the room to where you break into then you'll still get caught.

On a semi-related note, what does "Ethereal" mean to Bethesda?
Because to the rest of the world, it does not mean "see through but still able to be knocked off foot bridges by swinging logs"
It means something quite a bit different. Something having to do with "swinging logs cannot hit things in completely different planes of existence, so be EZ about that ridiculous gauntlet up ahead".

This is the nature of invisibility at least since Morrowind. If you do anything, like opening a door, or a chest, or attacking someone, your invisibility wears off immediately.
