I've been playing Kingdom Come Deliverance on my Switch between Skyrim runs and honestly it's making me appreciate what Skyrim does right while also... kind of seeing how dated the combat feels? Like I know it's been 15 years but the way KCD forces you to actually learn positioning and timing instead of just mashing attack makes Skyrim's system feel almost arcade-y by comparison.
Don't get me wrong, I still love Skyrim's combat because it's fast and you can build around it in ridiculous ways. But KCD's got me thinking - if Skyrim had even like half of that weight and consequence to swinging a sword, would the game actually be better or would it just feel clunky? Because right now I'm doing a melee build on my 4th playthrough and I'm basically just holding down attack and occasionally power attacking. It works but it's not exactly thrilling.
I'm not saying Skyrim should copy KCD's system wholesale, that would break half the game's balance. Just wondering if anyone else feels like the combat is the one thing that's aged the worst compared to newer RPGs. Or am I spoiled by playing something with actual directional blocking and stamina management.
