Mage - Werewolf

My battlemage is werewolf. With Dawnguard Add-On installed I have 370 HP in beast form. Since I enchanted my equip with reduce mana cost enchantments I can switch from mana to health upgrades. Right now my battlemage is 62 lvl with 220 HP without any enchantments, potions etc. When I will hit 81 lvl my char HP will be 220+190 = 410 HP. Thus HP in beast form will be 560.

So what point in all this?

Some people tend to think that there is no use to become werewolf as "pure" mage or other branches including mage skills cause you need to increase mana thus rendering werewolf defenceless in close combat with HP around 200-300. But as you can see from my calculations werewolf can have decent ammount of health even if you are any kind of mage.

So question to discuss is: Whether mage should pick vampire and warrior should pick werewolf or not?

P.S.: My point of view is presented above. I think that mage can definitely pick werewolf.

All I can say is that you should invest in good shampoo if you're a werewolf. A battlemage shouldn't have fleas.

As said above, do as you like. It's your world, the NPC just live in it. That being said, magic-heavy builds will benefit more than others regarding vampirism because vampires' and vampire lords' powers use, well, magic. Werewolves, on the other hand, have to get down and dirty to fight. They'll need a whole lot of health. And while you may have 500 health in beast form, you also have zero armor. At extreme levels, that renders you a bit of a glass cannon. It also hampers your ability as a mage. After all, points put into health are points that are not being put into magicka.

That leads to a second problem. You're going to need stamina. A mage can ignore stamina, as it isn't important to spellcasting. It is, however, extremely important to a werewolf. Without armor or regenerating health, a werewolf must kill things quickly, or at least keep them on the ground. So now you need stamina for your power attacks, which forces you to further split your point allotment between all three attributes, further hampering your ability as a mage. Points now going into both health and stamina are not going into magicka. And at higher levels on higher difficulty settings I would wager that you're going to miss that extra magicka.

And of course, there is lore and roleplaying. What would a pure mage be doing in joining the companions? Of course, as going for a level 81 build, you're probably not roleplaying that character, so that point is likely moot.

In either case, just do what makes you happy. It's your copy of the game.
