My FPS is higher outdoors than indoors.

No you can't get married if he's still alive, but you could try... i suppose if you can that means he's dead lol. If your on PC you can also teleport to him with console commands.

No, I'm dead serious. 15 fps might not be so terrible if it's smooth and consistent. 60+ fps is much less fun than it sounds when it stammers, stutters and jerks the frames back and forth. I feel I am entitled to this complaint because I paid big money to upgrade my rig so it could run the newest games well AND paid money for Skyrim.

I'm rocking a 1gig ATI 5770 and have no issues with stuttering whatsoever.

Ahhh i see what you mean. Have u tried turning spell effects and stuff down? I'm no expert but that stuff will max out your computer and make it stutter. Like, i have spell effects modded to be COMPLETELY off on my crappy little laptop and it's smooth.

Strangely enough, turning the settings lower doesn't help. If anything, it gets worse indoors when the fps goes even higher. The only thing that has helped so far was a mod that lets you play Skyrim in windowed mode without the border visible: that took care of both the indoor stuttering AND the outdoors frame-skipping and jerkiness (I think the mod limits your FPS to 60 max). Too bad that mod caused instability & crashes, and I can't run it any longer even if a new version were more stable because it resets my ini files so the game looks like garbage.

You mean you don't get the jerky frame-skipping when running outside (especially in 1st perspective)?

Correct. I am not on my pc right now, but once i get home I can post what settings i am using and such. More than likely i'm running at a lower resolution and lower detail setting than you. My machine is not a beast by any means, I built it about 4 years ago, but it does alright.

I would like to see your specs for sure. BTW, here's a link that compares Radeon and Geforce performance and describes my problem perfectly, and also notes the distant flashing mountain textures bug, a problem which I've suffered from in Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas and Skyrim:

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2011/11/11/elder_scrolls_v_skyrim_performance_iq_preview/3

We experienced two bugs on the Radeon HD 6970 in the first 30 minutes of playing. The first bug was that we experienced flashing textures on far off mountain ranges that could be seen in the distance. During the first scripted scene, as you are carted down to the town, there are mountains off in the distance. With the HD 6970 we saw the textures on them flashing as we were moving. The second bug is a more severe bug to the gameplay experience. We experienced a jerky or jittery performance behavior on a single Radeon HD 6970 video card in certain areas. As we were moving through the caves at the beginning of the game, there were some areas that all of the sudden became jerky in motion. Finally, when we got out into the outdoor world, as we moved through the forests we encountered some jerky and jittery performance behavior. It was not smooth, and this was with a single HD 6970.

Gaming on the GeForce GTX 580 in Skyrim

When we installed the GeForce GTX 580 our Skyrim experience was very different from the HD 6970. The mouse cursor lag was all of the sudden gone, and it felt much smoother. We had not modified any INI settings, just simply installed the GTX 580 with latest drivers. The mouse cursor lag was not present at all. We were able to move the mouse smoothly on the screen when starting a new game, and in-game the smoothness of the mouse was much better on the GTX 580 than it was with the HD 6970.
We also experienced no bugs with the GTX 580. There was no texture flashing, and no jerky or jittery performance. The GeForce GTX 580 gameplay experience in Skyrim was miles ahead of the Radeon HD 6970 experienced. We had faster performance, smoother performance, no bugs that we could see at this time, and a more enjoyable gameplay with the GTX 580.

I also run a Radeon 5770 and have never had an issue. I've read briefly about these problems that others have had, but have honestly never experienced even one slight stutter or pause in 200 hours or so of playing. I have all settings maxed including all view distance sliders, 8 AA / 16 AF and FXAA. I get 65 fps on average. My system:

ASUS M4A89GTD Pro motherboard
AMD Phenom II X4 965 (Black edition) 3.4ghz
HIS Radeon HD 5770 1GB GDDR5
8 GB Corsair XMS DDR3 2000
Corsair PS HX 750 power supply

I haven't read anything in detail about what causes the problems. Is it possible these could be attributed to something specific to the 6 series of Radeon cards?

It's possible these bugs are specific to the 6xxx line of Radeon cards. I've heard many complaints about them related to other games as well. So far the most annoying bug that has been present in almost all games I've tried so far has been terrible looking shadows (I don't think it's always caused by the shadomaps since others have reported smooth shadows by default on different systems). Thankfully Skyrim lets you work around this by modifying the ini files.

My system specs:

ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO motherboard
AMD Phenom II X4 3.4 ghz Black Edition (same as yours)
Radeon HD 6870 1GB
4 GB Kingston Hyperblu DDR3
550 watt power supply (not sure which brand)

You don't suppose insufficient RAM might be a contributing factor? I heard Skyrim uses 4 GB at the most and anything in excess doesn't provide additional benefits.

Nah, 4GB is more than enough. I only have 8 because the second 4GB set I got was practically free in a bundled deal when I bought some other parts. Skyrim itself doesn't use anything even close to 4GB. The only way anyone would ever see a difference with more than 4GB would be if they were running several RAM intensive programs simultaneously.
