Need Help Please

I went to soul cairn, did all my quest i was suppose to do and I killed Summoning Durnehviir, after I came out of the castle, Durnehviir greeted me and tought me how to summon him while in tameriel, so I head back to white run and headed to the fields of giants,i spent 3 dragon souls to learn all 3 words to Summon Durnehviir BUT he will not show up. Was I suppose to summon him first while i was in soul cairn or what?

But he will not come in tameriel, should I go back to soul cairn if it is possible to do or what am I doing wrong, I read the quest and said i can summon him then he would also teachi me a new shout as well.
 
This shout can sometimes not work in Skyrim. The only fix I know of is to reload a save before you learned the shout to summon him and test it.
 
I had trouble summoning him too. But I think my problem was that he needs a large place to land. So you need to make sure you are summoning him somewhere where he can comfortably appear. Otherwise, the summons will fail.
 
Aye, I am out in the fields of white run where the giants and mammoths roam, so it's huge area for him to come and land.
I have reloaded 3 times, ( I saved my game before i spoke to the dragon in soul cairn ) before the dragon scene .
I then went back to tameriel as he has instructed to summon him there when I need his help, I have tried 20 times trying to summon him all over the map but he will not show up, with or without enemies around me. I'll keep reloading from my soul cairn dragon spot and keep going thru his dialogue and accept his shout and retry i again summing him back in the tameriel lands.

Not sure if this makes difference but i am on a xbox 360 fully patched game and all DLC's fully patched as well

Also the dragon shout first word i have is Curse, then I chosen to unlock last 2 words.--- Never ans dying.
 
Well I reloaded my save spot in front of the dragon, went thru all the dialogue then i unlocked Durnehviir's fist word Curse , ion my misc quests says learn first word so i did that but it did not updated, so while in soul cairn i used the shout, still no update. So I unlocked the last two words, Never and Dying. Then I leave soul cairn and head back to tameriel lands. I decided to go outside whiterun and head toward the giants, cause that area is huge area to call a dragon. I did my shout and he will not show up, I have done this least 10 times so far, I even waited one time to unlock the first word CURSE then leave soul cairn and used the first word shout but got no update then i unlocked next second word NEVER and i tried it, still no update then i unlocked third last word DYING then i used the shout and he will not show up, I give up i cannot get this dragon to come to me after over 10 try's :(
 
You have to shout at the ground. If you shout in the air he won't show up. Took me awhile to figure it out but we normally shout at the person or thing we want to destroy with the shout.

Just make sure you are aiming at the ground, it should work.
 
Yes, it's a bit like conjuring. Except with conjuring, if your atronach can't land in the spot you've chosen with the crosshairs, they will go red. I don't believe this happens with the dragon.

But indeed. You need to point the crosshairs at the precise spot -- on the ground -- where you want him to appear.

ETA: I think I must have tried 10 or 15 times myself before I figured this out.
