Need Help with Maurice Jondrelle (Eldergleam quest)

I, like an idiot, accepted his request to come along with me to The Eldergleam Sanctuary, but somewhere along the line he got lost and now I can't hire anyone. They all say "It appears you already have someone with you". Maurice is apparently not in a position to die/get killed, but I don't know where he is so that I can dismiss him (or kill him as the case may be). Any suggestions/hints/clues? I lost him back on save #87 and I'm on #600-something now. I've tried EVERYTHING!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

That's strange, because he doesn't really count as a follower, more of a tag-along. You haven't hired any companions prior to bringing him along? And what platform do you play on?

Yes, but you're not going to like it. I know this because I didn't like it. I had to go back to save game before I lost him, or before before he got lost, and start re-playing from there. A lot of time wasted, but at least I could have helpers. Sorry I couldn't have been more help.

If you are on PC you can use the console to "call" him back next to you.

if on console, so the only way I know of is to go back to former save.

Yeah, already decided that was my only way as I'm on a console.

During my second attempt to not get him killed, on occassions, when walking down mountains, he just slides into the ground!!!!! This might explain why he's still alive and yet nowhere to be seen despite me pin pointing his location!

I've finished the quest now and the prat wants to stay with the tree.

Fingers crossed Vinigar or whatever his name is wants to follow me again so I can get my equipment back.

WelL!!!! As it turns out, APPARENTLY I already have ANOTHER follower! it wasn't maurice after all. hes safely tree hugging. And the ONLY two followers I have are both in their seats, telling me I have another follower. Does a wife count as afollower? Im married now... is THAT why they wont follow?

I've just gone back to one of my very first saves before I even knew I could have followers and it STILL says "it looks like youve got somene already"

My last hope, is that I once did a quest where I got drunk with a guy and woke up in a different city........ now i have to find him. his name is Sam... maybe HE is my mystery follower?

Nope, this didn't help either.... I've gone back to a previous save as suggested...... BOOOOOO patch it quick !
