No Thieves Guild for me

I was right. I find the Thieves Guild quest repulsive. Nothing about it appeals to me. All of you that enjoy it, more power to ya, but, no armor or weapon is worth it. I just can't get past ripping people off, breaking in to their homes and using bully tactics. Not for me.

If I want somebody's stuff, I'll kill them. All this sneaking around and victimizing people is not my idea of a good time.

Started the first few quests and found them boring and repulsive.

Fortunately, Skyrim is not the kind of game that will require you to finish this questline to "win" the game.

Bye bye Thieves Guild. I've got better things to do with my time.

I haven't done the Thieves Guild questline myself yet in two playthroughs, mainly because it just didn't personally appeal (a friend of mine did though and was turned off from it enough to reload a previous save). However, I have done the DB questline, so my character is certainly less that white.

That said, the thing that I found to be repulsive DB-wise, and way outside my comfort zone, was the optional 'home' torture chamber you can acquire. I mean, seriously. Clean, fast, professional kills are one thing. But taking sadistic pleasure in torturing victims is something else altogether. Not for me, and not the way my 'Listener' will run the DB. Anyone in the sanctuary that is here to indulge their sadistic fantasies can GTFO right now...basically. This is now a professional operation. ;)

So, getting back OT, and forgive me if I'm wrong here, if there are occasions where you might have to beat victims in the TG questline to extract any info, no, I would not be interested.

Exactly what i feel, i just wanted the thieves guild armor. I got up to the quest where i have to put that pub owner out of buissness by using poison but i just don't want to. Haven't stepped in the pub yet.

Another thing that disgusts me about the Thieves Guild is that they are allied with Maven Black-Briar... The only reason I do the Thieves Guild is for the Nightingale armor and weapons

I agree on the torture chamber. I really don't have an issue with the hired killings, etc... At least there's payment, although I finally gave up on the night mother, she's just greedy and it's never ending. The torture chamber was just overkill and I won't get it again. All those moans of pain and no way to determine why the folks are even there, gets on my last nerve almost as much as Cicero's incessant kvetching.

It was fun killing Mercer, and the armor and weapons are pretty ok, but i haven't used any of it, so I probably won't do it anymore in full. It does seem like there were some quest locked word walls though, and I do like an extra daily ability. The main thieves guild questline was mostly fighting - optional with not nearly as much actual thievery of innocents. The side quests were a lot more dull, took forever, and didn't really have much of a reward unless you like the cistern. The only thing I did really like down there was the Nocturnal statue, and the vendors had higher level gear.

Can't I just kill every member of the guild and start over again? The same thing goes for the DB. While I like the mini-vampire, everybody else (including the night-mother) just gets on my nerves. And the new recruits... don't even get me started.

A lot of what The Thieves Guild does is petty, or mischievous. Burglarize a home or business, pickpocketing someone's prized possession, or intimidating them into protection payment.

It's definitely not nice, but you never actually do lasting harm anyone. Everyone gets to keep their life, if all things go according to plan. As they are not dead, the chances of their luck and lot improving still exists! Killing someone because they happened to be in possession of something you want much more final. You've robbed them of what is ultimately the only truly valuable thing any of us will ever have; their life.

As for Sabjorn, the oaf that ran The Honningbrew Meadery, he was as big a thief as any of us. He entrapped Mallus with a debt that he knew he would never be able to repay and used him as an unpaid worker. An indentured servant. Turnabout is fair play, Sabjorn.

I know I'm weird, but, life is not precious to me, so killing someone that is a threat or actually attacking me and then taking their stuff, I can deal with, but stealing peoples possessions (particularly just to get them in trouble) just goes against my grain.

I'm doing the Questline ONLY because it's my first time through and will probably never do it again (who knows though, I might decide to do a thief one of these days - kinda like aversion therapy to get over the hurdle).

I do have to admit that the thing at Honninbrew was kind of fun. Got to kill a lot of skeevers and a wacko that wanted to take over the world and deliver the property to Mavin. Hey, maybe Mavin is a rich bi*** with a megolamaniacal personality, but, I kinda like her!

I love Mavin Brack-Briar.

A character that doesn't drop to one knee and kiss your boots because you are "The Chosen One", the all-mighty and infallible player character. It's refreshing. Riften is her town. In her pocket. If you want to make anything of yourself there, it you that'll have to do a little boot-kissing.

Yep, another means to an end....just like the DB quests, although I would like to be able to delegate the new jobs to the New Recruits. You know, truly become the Listener, rather than have to continuously do those jobs...

I don't steal in this world of bandits, dragons, assassins, undead deathlords, lying elves, orc leg-breakers, ancient dragon priests, etc. for one reason and one reason only. I don't like red print.

Get arrested, the guards take all that off your hands.......

Of course, if you didn't steal it in the first place, the guards would have nothing to take. I am proud to say that, in 62 levels, not once have the guards ever taken anything from me. Not one single thing... well, except for my dignity... and there was that one time in the Riften Jail with Sibi Blackbriar...

Her attitude gets on my nerves. She lives only because I can't kill her so I do the next best thing. I steal from her. The irony is delicious.

Who the heck gets arrested. Just talk the guards down, or pay them off. Or, if they do get you, nab your stuff back from the evidence locker!
That would infer that you want the stuff you stole! I think getting arrested was to get rid of it. Wouldn't know though. Never had any.

Well, she is better than you, so the attitude is understandable. She owns the town, is immensely rich and can basically buy anyone or anything or any service she needs without question and she has lots and lots of friends in high places. Sorry to be pragmatic, but, you're a nobody, she's not. That's the way it works in the game and that's the way it works in real life. Like it or not.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. Personally, I have usually fenced the stuff first. Was just giving an option.....:p

No. She's scum. If anything we're equals in that regard. I can be just as rich and have lots of friends in high places. The only reason I'm nobody is because the game never acknowledges anything I do or allows me to hold a position of power and actually enjoy the benefits of it. She uses the Thieves' Guild and the Dark Brotherhood to achieve her goals. That's underhanded at best. I liken her to a Mafia boss. She may hold a respected place in Riften but she's still a criminal.
