Paralysis poison is the actual broken crafting loop nobody mentions

Two-handed weapon, paralysis poison, done. Every tough fight in the game becomes a joke the second you hit someone once and they ragdoll for five seconds. You can craft it stupid early with just imp stool and imp gall, both of which are everywhere.

I've been replaying on Survival and realized I was basically cheating without thinking about it. One paralysis hit on a dragon and it's just... sitting there. Bandits? One swing and they're on the ground long enough to walk away and grab a snack.

The thing is, alchemy gets dunked on constantly because people talk about the restoration loop or stamina poison or whatever, but paralysis is genuinely the most busted single effect in the entire game and it doesn't require any loop or exploit. Just a basic poison on a basic weapon.

Am I crazy or does this deserve way more attention in the "broken mechanics" conversation? Smithing gets roasted, enchanting gets roasted, but paralysis just sits there doing its thing.

You're not crazy, but I'd push back a little. Paralysis is definitely strong, yeah - that five second lockdown is brutal - but it's also got some real limitations that people skip over.

First, the poison has to actually land. On your two-hander swing cycle that's like every four seconds, you're fighting enemies who move, block, dodge. Against dragons especially, good luck reliably hitting them in the air. And the paralysis wears off the second they take any damage, so if you've got followers or summons they're gonna break it immediately. Solo melee only and you're basically playing with one hand tied behind your back already.

The bigger thing though is that it's boring as hell and the game knows it. Paralysis poison is the "I'm done with this playthrough" button. You hit it once and you've already won - there's no fight anymore, just walking up to a helpless enemy and smacking them. Compare that to, say, a good damage poison or even just a well-built destruction mage where you're actually managing resources and positioning. Paralysis removes all of that.

I think that's why it doesn't get talked about as much as restoration or stamina drain. Those are exploits that break the progression system or the economy. Paralysis just... trivializes individual fights, which is less interesting to discuss because the answer is "don't use it if you want a challenge." It's self-correcting in a way those other loops aren't.

That said, if you're on PC and want to keep alchemy viable without feeling like you're cheating, there are mods that rebalance poison durations or add cooldowns. But yeah, vanilla paralysis is basically a difficulty slider you can craft for five gold.
