18+ Shadow Station

It didn't take long before the sniper was back out with the bounty hunter, who seemed occupied at the moment. The sniper who seemed to have a cop, or a guard look about him had leaned against a wall nearby. Xzavier dawned his mask and hood and hood, preparing to move. He glided through the streets, his cloak making him much like a shadow amongst the buisness of the station. He moved closer to the sniper, stealthily. He was within feet of the sniper before he spoke out.

"Ready for what?" Xzavier said, speaking somewhat quietly and specifically to the cop.

"Ready for what?" Glancing to his side, he noticed the half-mer in mask and robes asked softly. Galens' hand went to his pistol at his side. The man obviously has some skill at stealth. "For departure to the lower levels" he glanced at the bounty hunter, wondering if the two knew each other. They seemed the type that would work together. Or at least in the same line of work. The ex-lawman was less than thrilled about that. The bounty hunter might have agreed to work with him, but this character was...odd. Well, perhaps not odd, but he didn't exactly encourage trust."Can I help you with something?" He said, guessing that the man didn't need any help. He was up to something, probably.

Xzavier glanced over the man, he watched as he reached for his pistol. "You can take your hand off your gun. I'm not planning on hurting you, but if your panning on hurting me, then you better not miss." Xzavier said, as he further scanned the man, he was definitely some sort of a law man. "Can I help you with something?" said this person of the law. Xzavier wasn't sure quite how to respond. "No, not really. Rather, can I help you is the question." Xzavier said, relaxing and leaning against the wall. "There is obviously something going on around here, and you too were drawing looked a lot like people who also wanted to find out just what it is that's wrong." The crossbreed explained, looking to the bounty hunter and back to the sniper. "So, if you plan to head to the lower levels, would you mind an extra gun coming along?" He said, avoiding too direct of a question.

I tried to list all the questions Jess asked as she roamed, so I could answer them all. It was difficult, to say the least.
"Generates enough power to send it up to light-speed within five seconds. I control which system gets the most power, like shields, weapons, whatever else. The fuel is compressed gas, forced into a liquid. It manages to fit almost a year's worth of fuel into the fuselage easily. As for provisions, I never used to take this ship out for more than a week-long trip, at most. I can fit a lot, but I never had to."

Then Jess praised the Darkstrider as a masterwork of the Machine God that she revered so much. I felt honoured, though I wasn't sure why; it was an old religion that I knew next to nothing about. But I still smiled at Jess.
"Thanks. I don't think there were any priests, but it certainly is a masterwork. It's served me more faithfully than any friend I had back at home ever did."

Then I turned to Vex and answered his questions.
"I've got laser cannons on the front, they can be controlled by the pilot or by someone else in the seat behind the pilot. There's an ion cannon on the bottom, good for escaping bad situations, that can only be controlled from that seat there, in the middle. And that at the back is the biggest laser I could fit in there; that thing could take down a frigate if it sustained fire on it. Obviously, you see the seat there where the gunner sits."

I crossed my arms, sitting down in one of the canvas chairs in the central room on the ship and waiting for any other questions.

La'ara then sat down in one of the chairs and folded her arms. "What about the computers? In my time I've seen ships activate a jammer which then turns off all power to the enemy ships. Quite deadly at that. Is there any protection? trust me, you don't want to be stuck in space with inertia being the only thing that is 'driving' you. A hack is just as dangerous as a cannon," He then took his coat off and began thinking of other questions. " Is the fuel line protected? I'm guessing you made it a point to protect and reinforce vital areas? Other than that, I don't have anymore questions."

Vex put his coat over one of the chairs and sat down, waiting for an answer or Jessica to ask more questions.

"That's a good point." Jessica chimed in. "Electronic warfare can cripple a ship just as easily as a turbolaser can. Is there a shipboard A.I loaded on here to help with that?" She meant to ask if VATI was loaded on board but she wasn't sure if Vex knew about him so she left out that detail. "Also, if you don't mind me asking, do you ever get cold when you're out in space by yourself aboard this ship? I always seem to get cold easily when I'm in space and I most certainly would if I was on board this ship by myself. It would seem awfully lonely too. Plus if you're going through a nebula or something I'd find that pretty scary, even if they are beautiful. What else do we have planned for today by the way?"

More questions from both Vex and Jess. I thought on them for a moment, then responded.
"This ship is top-of-the-range, better than the military could afford usually. It blocks out all unwanted electromagnetic signals, including jammers. The fuel line is surrounded by about six inches of the most impact-resistant material I could afford, which means very impact-resistant. There is an AI on board, but he's... not here... at the moment." I gave a meaningful look at Jess, hoping she'd understand what I meant. "And yeah, it does get cold sometimes, but usually the engine heats up the ship while its running. The exhaust vents travel all over the ship to warm it up before sending the waste out into space."

When Jess asked what else we had planned, I looked to Vex.
"This was the only thing I was planning on doing, now we do whatever you or Vex want."

Jessica smiled at La'ara and gave a knowing nod. "Well it sure sounds like you got your money's worth La'ara. A ship like this could easily cost millions on Theren. Anything less than half a million would be a steal." She was relieved when she heard there was nothing else planned for today and now that she was in a position of safety her mind began to work again. "It's nice that the engine exhaust keeps the ship warm, and you're in space so no worry over air pollution. I imagine your bodysuit would help keep you warm simply by virtue of being impermeable...well...covering your body. Do you think the three of us could just go back to your place and...just chill? I could use a nap and you have a lot of...appliances I'd like to get to know. Plus it's been days since I've been able to game and I've got an obsidian castle to finish. Keeps the creepers out and all that."

Jessica folded her tightly gloved hands and smiled at La'ara and Vex, interested to hear what they'd like to do. She was looking forward to spending some girl time with La'ara and getting to know Vex. He seemed like a good guy and he was really cute!

It'll be nice to just sit and relax. My shoulders and legs are killing me. Jessica couldn't get anymore adorable.' "Sounds good to me. I haven't sit in a group of nice people for a while. Every place I go to unwind his filled with stupid people. I'm with Jessica on this one. How does that sound La'ara? Care to lead the way?"

"Alright. Let's go back to mine then. We can just sit and talk."
Right now, I was wishing Jess wasn't here; I was kind of wishing I could go back to my apartment with only Vex, and have a different kind of fun. But it was that strange part of my head again, the one that didn't think of consequences before doing things. I ignored it, and beckoned to both Vex and Jess.

I shut the door behind them and spoke to VATI.
"VATI, get our guests a mug of coffee each."
"Of course, ma'am."

Vex's face dropped as he heard VATI.
"Don't be so surprised," I laughed. "I just haven't told you before now because I wasn't sure if I could trust you. But now I've shown you my ship, I guess there isn't much chance of me getting away from you now, is there?" I grinned at Vex, then winked at Jess and turned, grabbing the coffee off a small platter and handing a cup each to Vex and Jess. Then I grabbed my own and placed it on a table in the living room, and retreated to my bedroom to change out of my bodysuit. I dressed into the same outfit I'd gone out in to see Vex; the vest, the shorts and a pair of socks to keep my feet warm, and went back out, sitting on the sofa and curling up with my coffee mug to my breast, keeping me warm. I gestured for Vex and Jess to sit with me, then flicked a switch to open the blinds, allowing us to see out onto the station while we talked. I simply relaxed and waited for the pair of them to sit with me.

"Don't be so surprised," I'm not that surprised." He walked around and waited for La'ara to gesture him to sit down. "I just haven't told you before now because I wasn't sure if I could trust you. But now I've shown you my ship, I guess there isn't much chance of me getting away from you now, is there?" La'ara laughed while she grabbed her coffee. "You could try, but there's not much of a chance!" He laughed with her, then took of his coat. "I hope you don't mind if I take my coat off." After he put his coat down, he sat next to La'ara. He looked around the room and he locked eyes with La'ara accidentally. Vex quickly looked down and started tapping his foot. He wanted to start a conversation with la'ara, but he figured it would make Jessica feel awkward, and he was always a little shy around women. He was shy around girls he liked back in school, he's shy around the right kind of woman he meets. So he decided to play it cool and confident. Plus he enjoyed the silence. 'I kind of wanted to talk to La'ara alone, but hey, what can you do. At least I can sit around, relax, and hang out with some of the only good people on this hellhole.'

Once La'ara was done changing and the bedroom was free, Jessica changed out of her own bodysuit and fold edit neatly onto a chair. She put the folded up gloves and boots on top of it and then got out her pajamas from earlier. She picked them up and examined them for a moment. She released a small cloud of banisters from her fingertips and had them assemble a light blue bunny tail to the seat of her pajamas. She took off her socks and then changed into the pajamas, rubbing her now covered feet together and wiggling her toes. She felt her new bunny tail with a smile of how cute she looked then went into the living room to join Vex and La'ara. She walked by them so they could see the tail, then walked over to Vex, smiling down at him.

"Hi there." She said sweetly. "Can I sit in your lap?"

"Hi there."Jessica used a sweet tone. "can I sit in your lap?" She was now smiling at Vex. "This isn't a set up right? 'Bounty hunter takes advantage of sweet innocent 17 year old'" He laughed, then continued to talk. "You can sit on my lap. Don't worry, you can trust me. It's not like you're an assassin hired by someone to kill me, I hope!" He moved anything that would make it uncomfortable or dangerous for Jessica to sit on his lap. "Alright. It should be safe to sit."

I gave a quick glance at Vex as Jessica sat, raising my eyebrows slightly. That part of my mind was raining insanity on me again; I was wishing I was in Jess' position on Vex's lap instead. And more. I kept thinking those things, and it was really quite annoying at times.

"Can... can I ask why you want to sit there, Jess?" The corners of my mouth tilted upwards, slightly sarcastically. I glanced at Vex again. I gave him a look; a look that clearly said,
You'd better not be enjoying that.

La'ara gave him a certain look. A look he expected to get. He rolled his eyes and returned it with a What the hell? Why would I enjoy this? kind of look. "Yeah, please enlighten her. Maybe your answer will make her stop giving me that look. Typical how it's viewed like that." He shook his head and sighed. 'Psft. Sad that she thought I would like this. Jessica is young enough to be my sister! What if I offered my lap to her? I bet she would shoot me on the spot! Although I don't mind the thought of her...Man, let's just stop that train of thought right now.' Vex silently laughed at the thought.

Jessica sat herself down on Vex's lap but regretted it fifteen seconds later. La'ara was giving her an evil look masked behind sarcasm and Vex was in a compromising position. Jessica's checks turned red with embarrassment as she put two and two together.

"I...I'm just trying to be playful, but I'm in the way aren't I? Gods I'm such a brick head! I'm so sorry! The way you guys look at each other...I'm completely ruining your moment! Vex, I am not coming on to you I promise."

She got off of Vex's lap and sat in between him and La'ara. She covered her face with her hands in embarrassment. "Gods I'm such an idiot, I'm so sorry. You're cute Vex and I feel screwed up for saying this but I thought I could get your attention if I got into my footies and added a bunny tail and you would think they were cute. You're a nice guy and I like being held and sometimes I get impulsive around guys and just...frak I don't know what I was thinking! I wasn't. Clearly you guys like each other and I need to get out of your hair."

She didn't realize she was crying. She waited for them to kick her out of the living room and send her into he bedroom like a child, even though she just wanted to stay, listen and be held by someone. She was done being scared now that she was safe here but that gave her time to be sad and lonely.

Vex gave an indignant look back at me, and then he seemed to be thinking of something. He glanced down at my backside quickly, and then down to where Jess' was. I rolled my eyes slightly, just before Jess went bright red.

She threw out words to explain herself, then sat between us and buried her face in her hands. I kicked myself mentally as I reached a slender hand around Jess' shoulder.

"Look. We... yes, I want to be alone with Vex." I flushed as I said it. "But Vex is older than you, and he can easily take care of himself. You, however, are like a little sister to me already. No matter how well you can take care of yourself, I'll always be worrying about you. You take priority."

I gave an apologetic look to Vex. I would still find some way to get to him, without disturbing or offending Jessica. It'd just be a little more difficult.

Jessica's face turned bright red, then she got she got demure over the subject. "I...I'm just trying to be playful, but I'm in the way aren't I? Gods I'm such a brick head! I'm so sorry! The way you guys look at each other...I'm completely ruining your moment! Vex, I am not coming on to you I promise."

She hopped off Vex's lap and was clearly embarrassed. Vex couldn't help finding it sweet. He can't hate or blow off Jessica like he could with other people. "Jessica, I know that you're not coming onto me. It's okay to act playful. You're not ruining anything!" Her face was red all over, and tears were building up. "Gods I'm such an idiot, I'm so sorry. You're cute Vex and I feel screwed up for saying this but I thought I could get your attention if I got into my footies and added a bunny tail and you would think they were cute.

Vex adopted a sweeter tone and manner like he did that one time he talked to her about spilling blood. "Jessi, you're not an idiot. don't be sorry love. You don't have to get my attention. I think you're the sweetest girl I've met! You're young, smart, and very bubbly. Once you get older, that will only get better! Plus your sense of humor will come in, and you'll come into yourself. It's uncomfortable and a bit awkward at your age." He then pulled her closer to where she sat back down, and he put her legs over his knee. Kind of like a big brother telling his young sister a story. "Don't worry Jessica. You'll find a boy who will really dig you!"

La'ara gave Vex a silent apology, and Vex nodded to let her know that he understands. "Look. We... yes, I want to be alone with Vex." I flushed as I said it. "But Vex is older than you, and he can easily take care of himself. You, however, are like a little sister to me already. No matter how well you can take care of yourself, I'll always be worrying about you. You take priority." 'Nice way to change topic. At least I know what she really thinks of me.' "She's right, to put it bluntly."

Vex pulled Jessica's legs over his knees and La'ara put a hand on her shoulder. Vex explained to her that she was the sweetest girl he'd ever met and she was just an an awkward age. She wasn't a screw up by any means, she was just going through a lot of changes and things would get easier. La'ara said Jessica was like a little sister to her and she believed it. She was their priority. These people really cared about her. Jessica was greateful beyond words for their kindness but that didn't chage her situation. She was a soldier trained for an illigal war that she would now never fight. She had no army to take care of her and no battles with wich to draw experience. Only training she would never use. She was without purpose and she had been thrust into a much larger world. She was a girl lost in space and had no idea which way was up. What in the name of the Machine God was she supposed to do now?

She had two bodies to hide her face in as the tears came but Vex was the larger and warmer of the two. She got back into his lap, hugged him tightly and started sobbing into his shoulder. Vex took her into his arms and La'ara started gently rubbing her back. It had been so long since Jessica had been with people who loved her and now that she had time for it, all of her emotions came flooding out.

"I don't know what I'm supposed to do anymore!" She sobbed. "My whole life I was trained to be a soldier! To protect my Acadamy and my Empire, now I know I was designed only to kill! Now my whole world is gone and I don't even know which way is up!"
