Shield or Restoration

I find myself running around with Restoration in my left hand rather than a shield. Does anyone else find themselves doing this? I play on adept so that might be why, I can prob heal myself faster than they can dish out damage. (Not including bosses) But I try using the shield and I just find it pointless. Half the time I am just spamming m1. (PC) But I just wanted to know your guys input.

I personally play a stealth character, but I would probably use a shield for all of the incredibly useful perks, with restoration as a hot-keyed spell for after battle

I use both. I use the shield when I'm up close with my sword but if the fight isn't going as planned I back off and switch to a restoration spell. Then I close the gap and switch back to a shield. It's a strategy that works well for me, especially when fighting more than 1 person at a time. You may be able to heal yourself faster than you're taking damage in a one on one fight, but generally if you're getting attacked from multiple angles it won't cut it. Besides with restoration there's no equivalent of the shield bash. So shield up close, restoration for emergencies/between fights to regen health faster. Works for me.
