Skyrim Multiplayer instead of ES online?

Hi all, I'm new to the forums but have been playing Skyrim for quite a long time now.
I've done a search and can't find this mentioned before so forgive me if it's a repeat of an old post, and please direct me to the previous thread.

So I have Skyrim on XBox and also have a few friends that have it as well. Recently there has been a mention of Elder Scrolls online. Personally I like to role play and imagine an MMO of Elder Scrolls could end up annoying with the people that just like to run around around just randomly attacking people.

However I think Skyrim could be great fun if you could invite friends into your party, eg. I ask a friend to join my game, and a portal or something appears in their world somewhere like where standing stones are. Then if they want to join they can walk through and will appear in my game World at the same location, (they'll obviously have an option to decline!). Then once in your friends game, you would gain XP, level up etc. Also when you join a friends game the difficulty of baddies would be increased.

I like the idea of having parties to adventure with.

I'd like to see games for 1-4 players. How hard would this be? And is this something that you would like to see?

Cheers :)

I also play Skyrim on the Xbox and would love this kind of thing :) It would be really fun but I'm not sure how hard it would be to implement.

Read here: wouldnt it be nice if they would start | Skyrim Forums

I disagreed. They would have needed to code this into the game from the beginning.

Combat wouldn't work since you often need to pause combat to access Favorites/Menus, what happens to the other player during this time?

Quests wouldn't work, would you then have duplicates of every item? What if Player A chose Stormcloak and Player B chose Imperial? What if Player B looted Player A's quest item? Would there be two TG Guildmasters? Four Nightingales? Two DB Listeners? Two Harbingers? Two Dovahkiin?

Friends? Nah, friend? Perhaps. I've always fancied the idea of a follower that was actually smart enough to jump, who also wouldn't get in the way.

MushroomGenius - You make some very good points! I think there would be a way around some of those things but I see what you're saying, it would essentially mean making a completely different game.

Hunfar - Yes, perhaps just one person instead of a follower who can't navigate rocks! ;)
