Two things to save TES

better recognition system. You know what I'm talking about.. a prime example could be saving the whole world and when you walk into the companions joint and varkas is still like "I've never even heard of this outsider"

no more essential npc's! seriously. I understand why they have them but really when they decided t implement it into the game wasn't there anyone in the room saying "why don't we just make it an option?

those are really the two major things imo. They immediately and thoroughly kill any semblance of realism.
and they (essentials) annihilate more than a few of my RP's

I nearly fell out of my seat when I went to the orphanage to inquire about adoptions and I was given the dialogue option of identifying myself as Harbinger of the Companions. It was cool, though mainly because so very unexpected.

Yes, being recognized would make a world of difference to the RP experience and immersion. Likewise, not being recognized when I'm wearing a full suit of armor and a dragon priest mask or Nightingale cowl.

As for non-essential npcs, I'm always in favor of more options -- as long as they don't end up introducing even more bugs.

Yeah that line from Vilkas always bugs me, usually do the companions quests later when all the guards seem to know I'm dragonborn (you couldn't possibly be the dragonborn of legend could you??) yet a member of the legendary companions hasn't gotten the memo somehow :confused:Not to mention everything else I've probably done, oh well. Now that I think of it, none of the companions recognize any of this. Just something you have to overlook if you're rping I guess.

I do wish there was an option to toggle essential npcs on/off, that would be nice!

Like I said you just have to overlook those things if you are rping, they might kill realism for you but others who use the power of imagination can still make it work. That said this probably isn't the easiest game to rp in.

On that note, I have a woodelf character that has done absolutely nothing but leave Helgen and hunt animals with Faendal. I was quite surprised to hear from a courier that I must be "moving up in the world" because I got a letter from the Jarl of Falkreath. I can't help but be deeply suspicious: first I'm nearly executed for no apparent reason and now I seem to have done a few noteworthy things that I cannot remember. I worry that I either have a very convincing doppleganger or a serious case of multiple personality disorder.

Best is when you are the Harbinger of the Companions, Dragonborn, Arch-Mage of Winterhold, and Listener for the Dark Bro's, but when applying to be a Stormcloak for the Civil War, you get called a "pup."

Got your "pup" hanging right down here, bro!

Oh, indeed. Calling the Listener "Unblooded" has got to sting a bit, too.

Agree that a recognition/reputation system would be wonderful

Deeds are recognised, armour worn identifies you as the member of a faction, etc.

Yes, being recognised for your achievements, disguises working and clothing identifying you as a member of a faction would be great, (dress as a Stormcloak, Imperials try to kill you etc). One other thing that bugs me is when I have a bounty on me, as soon as I enter a hold, all the guards just know I'm there. And also farm animals snitching on me, that sucks.

On a more minor note, store owners and innkeepers should start to recognize you after you have been there a few times and behave accordingly. While on this topic, a realistic system of haggling over prices would be a nice option.

First time I did the Companions was right at the beginning, before I had joined any other factions or fought any dragons, so it seemed quite realistic back then, but doing it with a character who helped win the war against the stormcloaks and defeated Alduin seems silly.

I don't know if this counts, but how about updating your spouse's dialogue when he or she is following you? When they are sitting around at home, they call me dear or my love, but when we're out travelling together, they still talk to me as if I'm a client or just a friend (unless I ask for cash or food)

Definitely agree. Though I think I'd want armor worn PLUS completion of at least one quest for that faction to identify you because I'd like to expand the factions you can belong to. After Cidhna Mine, for instance, how come I can't actually join the forsworn? If I complete the Pale Lady quest without killing all the bandits, why can I not join Eisa and be a member of the gang? Or if I sneak through White River Overlook and kill Hajvarr Ironhand, couldn't I have an option to persuade the remaining members of the Ironhand gang to accept me as a bandit member? I'm sure there are players who would want the option to join the Thalmor. I'm not sure how many are aching to be accepted by the Falmer, but the idea is at least intriguing. There are also all sorts of little groups of conjurers, destruction mages, necromancers, etc that it might be cool to join.

yeah, I'd like to be able to recruit people into factions as well. Marcurio and Belrand, for example, might be interested in joining the mage college, since it's supposed to be an up-and-coming facility once you become the arch-mage.

And joining a rogue gang of bandits or starting your own coven would be nice.

A lot of bandit forts come fully equipped with forges and labs, so it would be nice to convert them into "friendly" places, and set up your own room there, or use it as a base to round up and accomodate followers from different towns into one place. I was really hoping Treva's watch would become a friendly locale once you help Stalleo get inside, but that place just keeps resetting itself.

Well yeah you could recruit a smith etc into your camp and order your people to do things such as attacking other camps to steal their supplies etc. Then your own smith etc shouldn't charge you for making weapons cos, y'know, he works for you. :)

Like Fallout: New Vegas. If you wore NCR armor, you could be disguised as a member of the NCR, even if you sided with the Legion (their enemies). I agree that it would be awesome. Like if you wore Dark Brotherhood armor, everyone would run away from you in the cities, and maybe even attack you if you killed someone close to them or someone they knew.

I was identified by a guard once. He said "I recognize that armor, thief." I was wearing regulation thieves Guild Armor.
I have always thought it a bit strange that the Thieves' Guild and Dark Brotherhood have such recognizable armor. Surely these are two groups who would not want to draw attention to themselves. Being instantly recognized as a member of either group will put everyone on guard and make your job harder.
