Okay I'm going to say it. Vampire Lord is a trap. Everyone talks about how cool it is to transform and how overpowered the perks are, but actually using the form in a real fight? It's clunky as hell.
Your unarmed damage is pathetic even with the perks. You can't use any of your gear - no enchanted weapons, no armor, nothing. You're slower than a normal character. The melee attacks feel like you're swinging through water. And the moment you transform, every enemy in the cell aggros immediately, so stealth is dead.
I get that the Necromage exploit makes it insane if you're willing to break the game, but on a normal playthrough? I'm way more effective staying in human form with a good bow or spell setup. The Dawnguard side gives you way better tools for actual combat.
The real value is just the perks and looking cool in cutscenes. Which, fair, but let's not pretend the form itself is some amazing combat option when you're basically gimping yourself the second you hit that button.
