The Forsworn Conspiracy actually ruins Markarth forever and nobody mentions it

I'm on my third playthrough and just hit that quest again, and I realized something. Once you do the Forsworn Conspiracy questline, Markarth becomes this weird broken place narratively. You've either sided with the Forsworn (who are actively trying to reclaim the hold) or you've sided with the guards (who literally framed you for murder). Either way, you're walking around a city that should feel like it's tearing itself apart, but the game just... doesn't acknowledge it.

The NPCs don't react differently. Maven still runs her operation. The Jarl still sits there. There's no tension, no sense that you've fundamentally altered the political situation. Compare that to how the Civil War actually changes hold allegiances and guard uniforms - Markarth should feel like a powder keg after that questline, but it just feels normal.

And the worst part is how good the actual quest is. The mystery, the betrayal, the lore about the Forsworn and Orsinium - it's genuinely one of the best quests in the game. But it's wasted on a hold that can't really respond to it. Does anyone else feel like Markarth needed way more consequence-based reactivity built into it?

Yeah, you're hitting on something real here. The Forsworn Conspiracy is legitimately great as a standalone mystery, but the game's engine just can't handle the fallout. Markarth needed either a full questline branch (like how the Civil War splits things) or at least some radiant consequence - guards being more hostile if you sided with the Forsworn, Thane status getting revoked, that kind of thing. Instead you get nothing, and it kills the immersion hard.

The frustrating part is that the quest itself sets all this up perfectly. You uncover this massive conspiracy, you learn about Orsinium and the Forsworn's actual grievances, you get framed by the guards - and then what? Maven's still extorting people, the Jarl's still in charge, and Markarth acts like you just completed a fetch quest. It's like the game ran out of budget for the consequences.

I think part of it is that Markarth's hold quest (Forsworn Conspiracy) and the Daedric quest (the one involving the house with the dark presence) kind of eat up all the available narrative space, so there's nothing left for follow-up. Compare that to Riften where you can actually take over the Thieves Guild and Maven still has to deal with you being a major power player - that feels consequential.

On my third playthrough I just stopped caring about Markarth politics after the quest. The city's beautiful and the quest itself is worth doing, but yeah, it needed way more teeth to feel like it actually mattered.
