Vampire Lord form is way less fun than it should be and I think I know why

Tried a full Dawnguard vampire playthrough on my 6th run and honestly the Vampire Lord form feels like a trap option. Like yeah, the perks are genuinely good for melee builds, but actually transforming into the Lord? It's clunky as hell and drains your magicka pool so fast that you're better off just staying human and using the perks passively.

Compare that to Morrowind where your Daedric forms actually felt powerful and distinct - you had real reasons to use them beyond just "well the perk tree is good." Skyrim's Vampire Lord feels designed to look cool in a trailer but not actually play well. The animations are slow, you can't use most of your gear, and the drain is so aggressive that by the time you're in form you've got maybe 30 seconds of actual combat before you're limping back to human.

Am I the only one who just... never transforms? I just take the perks and call it a day. Seems like a waste of a whole form system if the optimal play is to ignore it completely.

I get the frustration, but I think you're underselling what the form can do if you build around it. Yeah, the magicka drain is brutal if you're treating it like a regular combat form, but if you stack perks that reduce magicka costs - the one that lowers spell costs in general, plus the vampire-specific ones - it becomes way less of a resource sink. I did a run where I leaned hard into that and it actually felt viable.

That said, you're right that it's clunky compared to what it could be. The animations are slow, you lose all your gear bonuses, and there's just this awkward feeling to the whole thing. It's not that it's weak mechanically, it's that the flow feels off. You transform, you get maybe two power attacks in, and then you're either out of magicka or the fight's already over anyway.

The Morrowind comparison is interesting but I'm not sure I remember those forms feeling that different to play? Maybe I'm just foggy on it. But yeah, Skyrim's Vampire Lord feels more like a novelty than an actual playstyle option, which is a shame because the perks themselves are solid enough that you'd think the form would be too. It's weird that the optimal vampire build is to just... not be a vampire lord.
