Why does nobody talk about how good Lakeview Manor's location actually is?

I'm on my 4th playthrough and finally built Lakeview for the first time instead of defaulting to Heljarchen, and I think I've been sleeping on this place. Yeah it gets attacked by bandits and stuff but honestly? The actual location is perfect. You're close enough to Whiterun that fast travel feels unnecessary, you've got the river right there, and it's genuinely pretty without feeling cramped like Windstad does.

The real thing that got me though is how natural the homestead feels once it's built out. Heljarchen always feels like you're building in the middle of nowhere, and Windstad just feels... wrong, idk. But Lakeview actually has that vibe of "yeah this is where someone would actually want to live." The approach is nice, the surrounding area doesn't feel dead.

Am I just experiencing new player energy with this one or does anyone else prefer it once you get past the initial "oh god bandits again" phase?

Nah you're onto something real. Lakeview's probably the most naturally integrated of the three, imo. The fact that you can see Whiterun from certain angles and it doesn't feel isolated is huge - Heljarchen up in the tundra is gorgeous but yeah, it's desolate, and Windstad just sits there in the swamp like you're being punished for your choices.

The bandit attacks do get old fast though. Once you're past level 30 or so they're basically just free loot, but that early phase where they actually threaten your stuff is annoying. I ended up just fast traveling back every few in-game days to make sure nothing caught fire. That said, the location more than makes up for it - the river access, the forest backdrop, the way the terrain slopes. Feels like an actual homestead instead of "I built a house here because I could."

Windstad Manor genuinely confuses me design-wise. The layout is cramped, the marsh setting is bleak, and there's something off about how the house sits on the land. Heljarchen at least has that "I'm a frontier settler" appeal even if it's lonely. Lakeview just works.
