My character builds. Decent or gonna come back and bite me?

Saint Vicious

Still sober
My first and main character is a Nord, also named Saint Vicious. Decked out ebony armor and weapons, all legendary. I'm only a level 20 right now. Skilled in smithing, one and two handed, archery, blocking and enchanting. Other than enchanting no magic. Dragon shouts are used very seldom. I have very few quests completed, for any guilds or main quests. I'm very easily distracted.

My second just to play around character is an orc, named Dr.Phil. 100 in speech. That's about it. I just thought it would be funny. If I played on pc I would find a mod to give him a suit and tie and have the best screen shot ever.

First one, I suggest choosing between 1h and 2h and use the perks from the one you do not want for block or something.

Second, scrap it.

I'd say if you were going for a Warrior build on the first one, then to pick between One-Handed and Two-Handed. But I wasn't sure because you also had Archery as a skill, which is usually used for Archers or Thieves/Assassins who mainly wear light armor to avoid being detected while sneaking.

Could you clarify on this a bit more? I would love to help!

To DustinBajaSS. Yes a kings fan. My parents actually lived close to Johnny Richter in California. So I got to meet and hang out with him, D-loc and Saint Dog once or twice. And Saint gave me full permission to steal his other alias Saint Vicious. I asked him, I liked the sound of it. I have not had a chance to meet Brad X or The Dirtball. I believe Johnny has moved since ive last been to Cali.

To Chillrend.I am mainly Warrior build. But I like to think of it as efficient killer. Bows for ranged attacks when I get the chance. I like duel welded swords for swarms of easier enemies, like draguar. Sword and shield for one on one - around one on three attack, such as hired thugs. And a battle axe for stronger opponents like dragons and trolls. Mainly fire enchantments for all. I don't care much for maces, greatswords, war hammers or war axes. And always heavy armor. Very little to no magic used. Same with stealth. I'd rather run in and start swinging than sneak in. I just enjoy the fight. Except spiders. I hate a spider and will burn it first chance I get.

My second build is purely a joke build. I noticed a resemblance between Dr. Phil and an orc. And I use it only to solve personal problems/quest. And it was terribly funny to see a Dark Brother hood contract to take out Dr. Phil.

Sounds like you like to master in a bunch of weapon types and it seems as if you have it all planned out! Sounds good to me, I don't think you should run into much trouble. Good luck!

I have barely started any quests. I just finished the 7,000 steps to see the greybeards, so I really don't know. Is magic really required in any or the main quests? Or others like the companions and so forth? Because i'm not really planning on putting any effort into magic at all.

You shouldn't run into much magic use in any of your quests (with the exception of the College of Winterhold questline). With the Companions, certainly not. If you keep doing what your doing you should be good. :) I finished the whole main quest with just a sword in one hand and a shield in the other!

I think I went a little under board on the weapons. I said decide between the two styles because the two styles are different but have one thing in common: destroying your enemies.

The differences on the weapons are actually more of how they deal that damage:
  1. Two handed weapons deal a lot of damage, but take longer between each swing.
  2. One handed weapons deal less damage than their 2h counterparts but deal that damage at a faster rate.
facing dragons at the before dragonrend stage, you will likely use archery/destruction magic.
Point is that you do not need both 1h and 2h weapons.

I know I don't need both of them. But, I like using both.

My first character is level 75 and I pretty much used all skills except Illusion and Alteration. Nothing was a waste of time. The enemies weren't too difficult as I sort of kept Archery, 2h, 1h and Destruction around the same levels.

IT is a waste of perks to put points into both, just saying.
I agree its a waste of time, but you probably play the game completely different than we do. It sounds really fun to play like that, but it'll take you a while to level up each individual skill.

As I said. I just like the fight. I like the sword and shield against other sword and shield carriers. I like a two handed ax on dragons. And double handed swords against swarms of enemies, such as drauger. Although, i went out of my way to kill a regular dragon with a pickax the other day. That was a helluva fight. But I can say I did it at least.

You should have dual wielded Woodcutter's Axe and Pickaxe :D

As for killing a dragon with a pickaxe, grats man, now go find a knife and fork (1 base dmg each) and tackle it! lol as far as how you do your weapon skills, I think "arms master" is a VERY viable build, using different weapons depending on situation is no different than using different spells of similar purpose, I think it's a cool idea and will probably try it out myself, if any of you checked out my "where to go next" topic I've been looking for a new direction anyways lol, but man, don't listen to anyone that tells you this is a waste of time, no offense guys, but skyrim is a deeply involved game that the only point to playin it is to have fun doing it, I have 6 different characters played through to 81 and working on a 7th, I've got anything from a tank with 1200 health and 2400 armor and 80% capped resistance to everything that goes sword n board, to a pacifist priest that heals and misdirects with fear/calm/fury/paralyze type spells and depends solely on followers and summoned creatures (and occasionally running away lol) to kill things...there are so many different ways to do stuff in this game the important and ONLY thing that matters is if you have fun playing your build, I play on console (360) and would suggest if you go heavy armor and this arms master build, look into allocating perks into enchanting to get dual enchants maxing the first to 5, and alchemy first to 5 then 2 more up to benefactor, this neat trick works the best if your a vampire and have the necromage perk bc it makes all your enchants/potions you create, and then the effects of them 25% stronger while they are on you...which allows you to have high armor values and damage values for your weapons, for a video go to YouTube and look up "skyrim ts 12 necromage vampires make better equipment" it shows you how to do it in detail...but over all man, have fun! Do whatever is enjoyable and see if you can make it win as well! lol if you need any help with anything feel free to ask..

Haha just realized I didn't explain the alchemy enchanting trick LOL there is a exploit in game that lets you wear a falmer helmet and a circlet at the same time, so using that in conjunction with ring necklace and gloves you can effectively reach a 125% bonus to base enchantments, you need 6 of each of falmer helmets, gloves and ring and necklace and about 20-24 grand soul gems...keep in mind these numbers account for if you mess up by accident...enchant a base set of gear with +25% alchemy on each, wearing them all you get 125% bonus to potions, use snow berries and blue butterfly wings to make fortify enchanting potions usually about 2-3 potions, then step over to the enchanter use a potion and make a new set of alchemy gear, which should be like 29-31% bonus, you may need to use more than one potion to accomplish this due to duration, but then rinse and repeat until your enchants grant a 33% bonus, that's the soft cap for an enchant bonus, if your a vampire with necromage perk it's increase to 41% bonus while your wearing it., now go take glowing mushrooms and saber cat teeth n make a fortify smithing potion which I'm not sure what the value would be, but easily over 120% increase to weapons and armor..so then with your best enchanting potions, which should be 46% without necromage, make a set of gear that increases smithing on chest gloves ring necklace, all at 33%, then go upgrade your armor using your "smithing set" + the potions you made for increased smithing and you get amazing damage and armor values, this also lets you increase the quality of ANY armor in the game to legendary regardless of smithing perks...with necromage it's significantly better, 184% on potions, 41% on enchants, my daedric armor plus the heavy armor perks/skill sets my armor on my chest piece to around 900-950...hope this is useful man!

I would recommend getting the "Skyrim Redone" mod. Alot of the vanilla perks are either useless or way overpowered like Agentoringe has said you can easily exploit smithing and enchantment for diabolical results. Imo, that only goes so far as you don't need super powered weapons if it only takes 2-3 hits of a Daedric sword to kill almost everything, what is the fun in that?

With Skyrim Redone, it increases the difficulty, changes up how the game works and adds a load of new things that will really give each character build a distinct feel. It also fixes/revamps/rehauls all perk trees and skills and greatly improved enemy AI. I find with the Vanilla game once you get to level 20-25 or so, even on Master with any build, everything is pretty easy especially if you utilize sneak and enchantment/smithing.

As for build recommendations, I always go with 1 melee skill (1h+shield, fast swing/moderate damage/don't take alot of damage) and either Destruction or Archery. Vanilla Destruction is horrible, especially at higher levels if you don't go balls deep into it (Basically pure mage) so I almost always go with Archery as it can easily cause more damage with the added bonus of sneak attack multiplier.

Using both 1h and 2h weapons, in my eyes, is a useless and unnecessary. "Jack of all trades, master of none." I love 2h, don't get me wrong, its much more satisfying to completely dominate someone with power attacks from a great sword or a great ax but 1h+shield is more versatile and more protective. Even Dual-wielding is better than 2h, you still cannot block but its all about damage per second rather than damage per swing, plus you can have an enchantment on 2 weapons at once rather than just one.

Heavy armor, imo, is much better than light armor in the sense that if you get the Steed stone (removes all ill-effects from wearing Heavy Armor) it practically is the same thing but protects a vast amount more. With that you should always invest a little bit in Enchantment and Smithing (I know I went on a rant about it being overpowered, but still XD) to create weapons/armors like no other. (In that case you should also invest in Alchemy to increase enchanting/smithing potential)

Lockpick/Speechcraft/Pickpocket are all, 100 percent, completely useless and the only reason you would invest perks in either of these is to get the one that increases your carrying capacity, but even that is pretty obsolete.

For magic schools, Destruction is vital if you don't go with Archery. Illusion in vanilla is pretty bad, its only good till around level 15 and becomes pretty useless and is only there for the novelty of it. Its a shame really, I really love the concept of turning your enemies against eachother and it is very fun in the beginning. Alteration is a good skill to have with the improve armor rating spells and magical resistance but even that tree needs alot of work to be worth all the investment. Conjuration is a fun skill, but don't overextend yourself into all the magic schools, it takes alot of perks to master any one of them.

Sneak is a horrendously overpowered skill and almost every enemy including bosses become child's play when you master it and take full advantage of sneak multipliers. Its probably the easiest skill to master as well if you're like me and sneak attack every chance you get.

Like I said, I strongly recommend "Skyrim Redone", it removes all the overpowered skills, balancing things out and makes the game alot harder but much more enjoyable to play. In the end, its all up to you, Skyrim plays alot different than Oblivion ever did in the sense that as long as you don't invest too many perks you can switch up your style willy-nilly. Any build at later levels (20+) is going to be a killer no matter how you go, unless of course your build is like Dr.Phil there XD. Good luck, I've probably created around 50 characters so far because I just can't get it right or I lose interest in them.
