OOC Heart of Darkness

Mr.Self Destruct

Chosen Undead
Heart of Darkness
Recruiting is OPEN
Eras ago, within the shadows and mist of the Wrothgarian Mountains, a great evil rose. An Aldmer, known as Ancagalon; The Pariah King, seized power by way of bloodshed and violence over the kingdoms of Orc and Goblin. Though he was once a gracious Aldmeri king, he was a follower of the hero Trinimac, and as Trinimac and his followers were corrupted to the image of Malacath, Ancagalon could not stand his visage. In his vanity, he made a pact with the Daedric prince Mephala to change his form back to that of an Aldmer. Though she was of great evil, the gift came not without a price. Ancagalon's physical form was returned, though morally and mentally he was corrupted by darkness. His mind destroyed by shadow, the once benevolent king set upon a campaign of destruction. To Mephala's amusement, he united his changed kin under the Black Flag of Ancagalon.
The Horde wrecked havoc upon the kingdoms of High Rock, an unstoppable force of Goblin and Orc to which there was little equal. Soon, all of High Rock would be engulfed in shadow, all kingdoms destroyed or enslaved by the Horde. Until a last alliance of men, lead by the Nord hero Alinor, would wage one final desperate battle against them. On the fields before the Wrothgarian Mountains, Alinor slew Ancagalon, and the Pariah King's reign would end. The memory of the Black Flag fading into history, until it was all but forgotten by most in the following eras.
Though ages later, rumors are heard among the keen ears of Tamriel of a strange presence in the shadows of the mountain passes of High Rock. Talk of strange figures and shapes peaking the interests of few, though many have forgotten, some remember the tales of Alinor the hero and the shadow of Ancagalon. Will you set out to find what lay within the mountains?

Post your character cards here! I'd prefer experienced roleplayers, but all are welcome!

Name: Alistar
Gender: Male
Race: Nord
Class: Ranger
Physical: Alistar is in his prime years of life, he still retains a youthful and healthy visage yet is an experienced and capable individual. He stands tall, has a rugged and well maintained build and has shoulder length brown hair, coupled with a rough and untidy set of stubble. He has strong and pronounced features, a rough jawline and high cheekbones accommodating a strong set of blue eyes and fair skin.
Personality: Alistar is an honorable and stoic man who lives by a personal moral code. He seldom speaks, preferring to let his actions do the talking and as such judges others by their own actions and doings rather than what they speak. He doesn't refrain or shy away from battle, and at times his qualities as a courageous leader show. However he tends to do things alone, though he doesn't have issues with others he prefers to rely on himself.
Gear/Skills: Alistar is normally fitted with light leather armor and a wool hooded cloak, which is normally pulled over his head. He carries with him both a wooden bow and a steel blade, and is proficient in the use of both. Though he is an experienced fighter, his qualities as a huntsman stand out even further. He's a very experienced tracker and knows many passages and paths all across Tamriel. He also knows many useful survival skills and techniques, and as such knows some in the alchemical field.
History: Alistar was brought up in a secretive and elusive guild of Rangers which operate all across Tamriel, they are known by very few, and often do they work alone as agents patrolling the wilderness. The guild is very old, it's roots tied within the Northern Kingdoms of High Rock and the Warp in the West. Though further details are known not even by Alistar. Alistar's father was the head of the Guild for many years, though his position was merely figurative and he held no real power or control; each Ranger was their own man, but out of respect they would answer to the head of the Guild. Alistar's mother was a woman who had met his father in an inn, the two fell in love and eventually Alistar would be born as an only child. However his mother would soon part from his father, and where she is or if she's alive is a mystery.

His father would pass away early in Alistar's life, making Alistar the official head of the Guild. Though he's never given direct orders, and seldom encounters another in his ranks, he still holds regard by his companions and is respected by them. He now lives the life of a Ranger, exploring, always on the move, carrying with him the traditions and skills passed on to him.

Nice character! Though I think we shouldn't have too many of the same class, as to diversify our roles and characters. Do you think you could give Torin some more warrior aspects? If not, it's fine.

Oh and some side info, the RP will begin in the town of Anvil. It's on Cyrodiil's Western coast. We'll be making our way North through the deserts of Hammerfell and eventually into the mountains.

HISTORY
» CHILDHOOD Sorex was born in Anvil, Cryodiil to parents who were guards. They spent most of their time away from taking care of crimes. Sorex came to resent them because they were never home, and decided to rebel against them. He would steal things and cause mayhem in the city. He would pick locks to break into stores and then throw the items he still into the bay of Anvil. He was progressively getting better at being a thief. He caused his parents so much grief that they were forced to quit the watch because crimes were mysteriously accredited to them. As he grew older he realized that he wanted to travel, to see the world. And he knew that living his whole life in a city with his hated parents was not what he wanted.

» TEENAGE YEARS So he ran away at 14 to travel Tamriel and learn as much as he could. Sorex traveled east through Cyrodiil going through the Imperial City. He stole items in the city and traded them to the Thieves Guild there. He soon after left the city after acquiring some gold. He ended up in Cheydinhall and was caught thieving by a rather old Illusion mage when he was 16. The item that Sorex was in the process of lifting was a very valuable statue that he could be killed for attempting to steal. The old mage told Sorex that he would not rat him out if he studied under him and learned Illusion magic. Sorex decided that this was for the best and said yes to the old man. He wanted to keep moving, but he knew that knowing some magic would help him. For years Sorex studied learning Illusion magics as well as more general education like history and government. The old mage did not believe in the gods and, neither did Sorex in time. During his free time he practiced archery outside the mages house. He would talk to people in the tavern and learn the ways of speech from a few drunks there. From this, came Sorex’s love for taverns and mead. The old mage taught him how to calm an enemy and induce fear in him. How to force an enemy to flee as well as other things. Each year that Sorex grew stronger and smarter, the mage grew older and weaker. After it seemed that the old mage had taught Sorex everything he could, he revealed to Sorex one last spell. The old mage had told himself not to teach this spell to Sorex because it would aid him in his old thieving ways. But the old mage knew there was nothing he could do to pull away Sorex from the path he tread on. The very least he could he could do for the boy he had come to love as a son was teach him one last spell. Invisibility. Sorex was amazed and spent weeks after weeks training this spell. Soon after, it was evident to both the mage and Sorex that the old man was dying. Late one evening, the old mage passed away in his favorite chair. After a small funeral attended by one boy and no gods, Sorex buried the old mage in the backyard of the house.

» ADULTHOOD Sorex was now 20 and he decided to move along. He did not want to be held down in one place for too long. So he continued east into Morrowind. The odd culture there amazed him. He was taken aback at the Dark Elves’ racism even though they were not in a position of power. From this came his hate of Mer. He adventured around Morrowind thieving and building his fortune. He trained with swords and light armor during this time. He robbed many homes and traded with fences in the Thieves Guild there. They offered to recruit him, but he refused. He told them that he was not ready to settle down. By the the time he left Morrowind for Cryodiil, he had amassed a small fortune. When he arrived in Cryodiil again he was 24. He knew he was getting older so he purchased a small home in Anvil, his home town.

RP SAMPLE
Rellicus looked out from the shadows of a nearby house. The sun was setting over the vast land of Tamriel. "Marcus Black, eh?" Rellicus whispered to himself. His eyes drifted over the sinister stone fence that surrounded the massive two-story house. "Hmm. Pretty good pay for a guard captain." He told himself snickering. Most of the man's money was gained unlawfully, no doubt. Rellicus' eyes drifted to the heavy pad lock on the front of the gate. "Not getting in that way." He said. Sewers were not his forte either. He looked at the tall tree outside the gate. There was a branch that, with some luck, would let him jump over the fence and onto the window. "Good enough." He said to himself. He quickly dashed over to the tree and ran up it. He jumped off the side of the tree aiming up for the branches. He connected with the branches and grabbed tightly onto them. He lifted himself carefully onto the branch trying not to break it. He positioned himself to jump over the fence and onto the window. The branches flexed under him and he knew they would last long. He was glad he was quite lean. He could hear the branches starting to crack under him. "Crap!" He looked across to the window, then down. It was a long fall to the ground, plus there was movement behind the window. It was a long jump, but he had no choice as the branches were falling out from under him. He leaped as the branches broke. He was too late though, and the branches did not prove strong enough to launch him to the window. His fingers scraped the ledge of the window. He had missed. He plummeted and hit the ground with a thud. "Argh!" He stifled back. He hoped no one had heard him. At least he was in the yard now. He staggered up with a groan. Rellicus knew he had only one way to go. Up. So he climbed a wood ladder that was propped up against the side of the house. From the top bar of the ladder, he could climb onto a small window balcony. He pulled himself up onto the balcony and started climbing up using the loose cobblestones. His whole body ached from the fall, but he knew that he had to get that necklace. So he pushed on and kept going until he reached the second story window and opened it. Inside was a man who had recently gone to sleep. Rellicus sneaked in and found a small lockbox. He picked the lock on the front with a lockpick and opened it. Inside was a fancy necklace that fit the description. He grabbed the necklace quickly and sneaked own the stairs. He found Marcus Black sleeping on a couch. He approached the sleeping man to pickpocket him. He knew he had the keys out of here. He reached his hand into the man’s pocket and felt the keys. Marcus shifted in his sleep, and Rellicus stifled his breath. He grabbed the keys and slowly left the house. He locked the door behind him and then the gate as well. He walked down to the tavern for a drink. One more successful hit, he thought.

I haven't really got time for more RP's at the moment but do you think I could mention this to a friend of mine of the site? He's quite new but a good writer.

Nice character! Though I think we shouldn't have too many of the same class, as to diversify our roles and characters. Do you think you could give Torin some more warrior aspects? If not, it's fine.

I'd rather not make him too much of a warrior. However, I do have a different character that's all warrior(Basically Boromir from LOTR) . Just let me know if you want me to use him instead.

That'd be great, shame you couldn't join us.

And Blackwhite, could I see a character card for him? And I see I'm not the only one interested in Tolkien here. :D

Ok, here's my warrior character.

Name: Bornir Shield-arm.

Age: 30

Race: Nord

Gender: Male

Alignment: Orderly Good

Class: Warrior

Weapons: Sky forged steel sword

Armour: Steel breastplate, gauntlets, and greaves, with leather tunic over a shirt of chain mail. An iron shield with a broad leather strap connected to each edge of the shield, allowing it to be slung over his shoulder when not in use. Also a wolf-fur coat that he uses in particular cold environments.

Appearance: Tall, handsome, with light brown hair that almost reaches his shoulders. A short beard of the same colour, light grey eyes, muscled from years of practicing with his sword and shield. Heavily respected by the guards and soldiers of Whiterun hold.

Personality: Although always willing to help those in need, Bornir often lets his pride get the best of him, which draws him into inevitable conflicts with both those he fights alongside, and those that he thinks have insulted him in someway.

Backstory: Born and raised in Whiterun, he quickly became one of the best swordsmen in the city, challenging numerous travelers to battle, well into his teen years. He then joined the Whiterun guards at the age of eighteen, and worked his way through the ranks of guardsmen, fighting everything from bandits to Falmer. When we was twenty three, he killed a young mammoth, and uses one of it's hollowed out tusks as a war-horn. Although his family was poor, Bornir often acts like nobility, and having recently been promoted to the captain of the guard, is highly respected by the guards and people of the hold. Unfortunately, he is often too proud for his own good, and that, more often than not, leads him to conflict with others. However, he is good hearted, and cannot abide cruel and evil men, often riding days to hunt them down and bring them to justice.

I like this character, though isn't a bit far fetched lore-wise saying he slew a dragon? This roleplay will go assuming the dragons never returned, and the events of Skyrim never happened.

Whichever character you want to use is up to you, though.:D

GEAR
Bound Sword as a Weapon
Leather Armor (full set minus helmet)

Backstory:
Born and raised most his life on the outside of Daggerfall City (a few miles out) he was kind of used to city life but also kind of used to a more rural farm life. He was poor, everyone seemed poor, but his father took it upon himself to teach Edwyn basic Conjuration. Bound Sword was learned at a young age of 10 and his father taught him to control his inner power and to focus on each spell, one at a time. Don't think ahead when casting. Just focus.

Edwyn was uprooted from his home at the age of 15 and moved to Skyrim with his Aunt Barbona. His Aunt was a lonely woman living alone in the forests and this life was not beloved by him, though he came to love his Aunt. At age 20 he moved away from his Aunt, wandering the land of Skyrim trying to learn all he could about Conjuration. It was during this time he met Phinis Gestor in an Inn at Winterhold. The mage was a Conjurer, more experienced than Edwyn, and he taught Edwyn his first Atronach Spell. He then sold other books to him at a discount price. It would take Edwyn years to master the knowledge within the books (as opposed to in-game taking 1 second but I digress) but he would become more powerful than ever.

At the age of 33, after 13 years on his own in Skyrim, he decided to visit Cyrodiil. He soon came to love the surroundings and he moved into the town of Anvil (or rather, a tent on the outside). Anvil was a town not too big but quite large enough for him to comfortably live in (or like I said earlier... around.) He's been living around Anvil for about a year now and he likes to explore the surrounding countryside or relax a bit at the Inn.

It appears as if we're moving here for good then.
Recently, I have been trying to keep my RPs to a minimum so as to avoid thinning out my characters. However, I think that I still need a way to continue to keep in touch with my older RP friends. Thus, I think I shall join this so I can maintain communication.

Mr SD, I can't tell if I'm going to use Geel yet, but can you save me a slot on this RP? I think that with the fresh faces on this RP, as well as the return of Rextoret and other old members, this will be a successful RP. Just give me a while to decide which character to use, and I shall join

Skyrimosity - I'm fine with you using it.

Mr.Self Destruct - I added a few more things to my CC. (RP sample, perk spread for level 50 and affiliations.

Geel-Kajin - Nice to be back. I can't wait to get started with RPing again.

Mmm, glad to have you back.
I'm currently in a dilemma; I want my character to be special and unique, not the commonalities I see in other RPs.

So far, Geel has been my most-fleshed out character in any story, but I don't think I want to continue down the road with him. He has been my friend in the art of writing, and really taught me a great deal, but I think I shan't ruin what he's done by using him here. It's time to start on someone else

This...character creation process is most difficult.

I know what you mean. I use my main RP character, Sorex, often. In a way he is just a redone version of my previous character, Rellicus. One of these days I'm going to create a character who is extremely fleshed out. But it's hard to come up with a character you can stick with for a long time. I've decided to put Sorex to rest in a way. In his main RP, The Grand Adventure (In the future a bit), I plan on killing him off before the end. I have never done that, and I doubt many other people have. You might want to do that to Geel at some point. To put him away, you know? I agree with you though, one very detailed character is better than many under-cooked ones in my eye.

I'm not sure where my ranter has gone, but hopefully you can pull some inspiration out of it for what you might want to do with Geel and perhaps a new character. Your character is your own but if you want some help brainstorming some ideas or formatting that can help you make a very fleshed out character, you know where to find me.
