Avoiding Impossible Quests/Opponents

So I'm playing Skyrim (PC), and I wonder how to know which quests are impossible at your level?

I'm a level 14 light armour wearing bow + sword/shield character.

I'm given the quest "Find the Source of Power in Valthume" at a much lower level. This leads me to get the Evil In Waiting quest located in the same dungeon. First, the things guarding the wall of power are so insanely hard that even using potions, etc, it takes me 6+ attempts to get past. I mean shout on multiple opponents at my level, what the hell!

Then I go to finish the quest Evil in Waiting. I don't know what level you have to be to kill Hevnoraak, but I can't kill him at my level (and suspect I won't be able to till mid 20s at least). Using potions, he kills me literally before I can cross the room and get to him when I'm running.

So, my question is this: without meta information (out of game acquired information), and without first dying to find out where not to go at what level, how do you know where not to go and what to avoid? It seems the game encourages you to die often by giving you quests at levels which are far too low to reasonably complete the quest.

I have seen some people say that when they die, they delete their character and start over. Unless they had pre-knowledge on what to avoid, it would be impossible to play the game without dying.

To expand on that, I once killed Alduin and I was only like lv7 by the time the main quest was all said and done. The game seems to scale pretty good for me until late game when things get a little weird and it becomes harder to maintain a balance.

so much for the almighty Nordic god of Destruction

As far as avoiding death all together, good luck with that. If I had a nickle for every time a misjudged a leap from a mountain side...

I died from falling off the water wheel in Markarth so I really can't help you there.

I once killed Krosis and alduin at lvl 1, and it was easy, though most dragon priests are hard at higher levels with there lighting spells, which is why fighting creatures that use magic like them as a mage is easier.

Sometimes you can keep walking around an enemy (As in, right up in there face) and get hits in, its especially good against ranged attackers, especially hagravens. It should work on dragon priests but I haven't tried yet....as i'm a mage.

This is also a game of patience, don't go in slahsing and bashing cause maybe you can, but do it tactically and then you won't die often, and think about knowing when they will attack, I get killed a lot by enemies using power attacks because I keep walking backwards and not side stepping them.

I haven't had any trouble with enemies so far and I'm only around level 7-8. I have only died once on my new character and that wasn't from combat, but a misjudged leap from a waterfall. My advice would be to always improvise; if you see a tough enemy that you know you can't beat with a sword, try using either a bow or magic from a safe distance. I killed two giants Sunday and didn't even get struck by them. If you improvise, not only will you win more battles, you'll have a lot more fun. I've done the whole hack and slash thing before, and it's faster, but you miss the opportunity to really explore and appreciate the world of Skyrim.

It's never that hard to tell whenever you're in over your head. I only ever play on adept mind you and I've found once I've acquired the Marked For Death shout, there isn't too many opponents I can't' defeat using run and hide tactics. This shout can be used quite frequently (first word) and if coupled with that cowardly, albeit smart tactic, you should eventually defeat your opponent. Since your enemies level with you sometimes I take on the fiercest foes early, so they're not too difficult later on. Azura's Star quest comes to mind because if you wait too long, the dremora's fire spells become a real danger. Also the companions quest line is better done sooner so as to avoid getting one shotted from Silver hand leaders at higher levels.

I've been able to complete almost all the questlines at low level (below 10), but not dieing is just unrealistic. It takes experimentation, planning and creativity, but it can be done. Example: you're not supposed to be able to survive the crypt outside of falkreath (Harmidan? something like that, with the sacrificial carn, and, while it is very, very difficult to get through the end with the guy that keeps teleporting and coming back to life, it can be done.

Plus, I find, if I set the difficulty down during that awful boss fights and can sometimes survive them.

you want a boss fight you think you could take my character on he's the one in the avatar pic.

Sure, as long as I was on another planet and could send minions instead. Alternatively, could you wait until I'm about level 300 and a vampire lord as well? :)

hey I can deal about 900 damage per bloodbomb and about 240 damage +20 Poison damage per melee strike, the nightcloak does 35 damage per second, I have 600 armour rating and over 2400 HP in that form, If you got it on PC you have to get a good Vampire Mod

I think you just convinced me never to go PC. YIKES! There is nothing on Nirn that could stand up to that.

Hey you should read another post I wrote earlier, it spoke about how a vampire with the blood of Akatosh would be powerful enough to take on A Deadric Lord, by the way what do you think of my newest graphic settings?

They'd be way too dark for me, but, given the subject, they seem perfect to me. Are you using mods on your PC to get such realistic lighting and textures?

the mod is very very dark, and I mean you cant see anything at all at night, and yes to get those graphics I am using Bethesda HD pack, swim static mesh improvement, kurts flora overhaul, lush grass, lush trees, alternate sun glare, enanced distance terrain, kerplunk, hybrid HD plants, pure waters, an ENB, Better males, CBBE big bottom edition, footprints and smoking torches and vibrant aurora, and The VL has been retextured to a grey colour instead of that lime green colour heres another pic at daytime guess which one has the enb

This is the way I grind from lvl #1 to about lvl #10 ..... This is just the way I do it cause i'm not near as advanced as most of my peers on these forums. I use only X-360 , the Mods on P.C . are fun but not for me . I grind " ALL" ( The Jarl's men came by at left this) ....." Kill all the Bandit's at this location" Etc Etc . I use all these up as givin by the Inn keeper in White Run. Then I Go to Riften and join the T.G. .... I never take on any Dragon Priest's till I hit bout lvl 25/27 by then I have Whirlwind sprint 1st word , this helps me close the distance Quickly . Just how I do it , and I should add that sometime's I die more by the hand of those Bandit chief 's , from lvl 1-10 than by any dragon priests . OK hope no one goes to sleep reading this LOL. Good luck in your Adventures . :)

you say mods are not for you? hmm are you telling me you would not want a patch that solves bugs or Vampires that cant drown or a fix for those lumps of clay your character calls feet

Not speaking for him but I agree that mods really aren't for me either despite the obvious enhancements they provide and some of the annoyances I'd like to fix. For me, they are just another level of work that I'm not interested in. Skyrim with all the DLC's just doesn't leave me wanting to spend any time 'fixing' it. It's easier to just ignore or avoid my pet peeves. I'd rather just play it as is and do other stuff with my free time other than shop for mods, troubleshoot the issues the mods could create, whatever upkeep is necessary, etc. I think it's totally cool that Bethesda has created a game that can be so modified for people that are so inclined, and I enjoy looking at the screenshots, but you guys can have it.
