Just replayed Blackreach in both games back-to-back and I'm genuinely confused about how the same location can feel so fundamentally different. In Skyrim it's this claustrophobic, oppressive Dwemer ruin full of those creepy glowing mushrooms and the sense that you're way deeper underground than should be possible. The architecture feels alien and wrong in a way that actually unsettles you.
But ESO's Blackreach feels... safer? More like a zone you're meant to explore and complete quests in. The scale is different, the layout makes more sense, and it doesn't have that same dread to it. I get that ESO is set centuries earlier so maybe the Dwemer were still around or the place was less degraded, but it still feels weird that the same underground city can have such a different vibe.
Is this just a difference in how the two games approach atmosphere, or is there actual lore reason the place changed so much between the Second Era and the Fourth Era? Because I remember reading somewhere that Blackreach was supposed to be this massive network and Skyrim only shows you one part of it, but I'm not 100% sure if that's canon or just fan theory.
