Elder Scrolls: Movie Franchise?

Could you ever and/or would you ever want to see TES transferred to the big screen and become a movie franchise?
I'm assuming this question has been asked before and that this has been rumoured many times in the non too distant past.

Obviously, this brings along all kinds of pitfalls...

The budget it would need to do it justice.

The setting you would expect to see.

The high chances of lore-rape if it was given to a studio looking to dumb it down.

The probability that a big name would be involved and thus render major roles forever besmirched by their portrayal.



Does it even NEED a movie conversion or is the lore, this community and the games themselves enough to encapsulate what TES is? Would any addition or expansion to that ruin the very essence of this great tale?

I'm playing devil's advocate and putting the question out there, letting you know that I would have tremendous excitement on one hand, but anxious reservations on the other should anything ever materialise.
 
Well, as much as I love watching movies, I don't think a TES movie would work.

First of all, which game would it base upon? Morrowind, Skyrim, Oblivion, Daggerfall?
Which race? Would the person be Dragonborn, or whatever? What would the Main Character act like? Would he be an assassin, a Mage or a fierce warrior?

I don't think it's possible to create a TES movie because of the diversity of this game, the choices you can make. They would have to create someone to appeal to us all, which, in my opnion, is impossible.

Unless they would make a movie not based on the player character and his choices, but rather on the war againts the Thalmor. That could work. The Empire working together with the other races to stop the Dominion once and for all!

Now that would be a nice film!
 
If it did end up as a movie, I think they would need a budget like LotR and a director like Jackson. Can you imagine how upsetting it would be if it turned out like those awful D&D movies???? :confused:

I am very content w/ just having the games. I am often disappointed w/ adaptions to TV and movies ( Videogame adaptations at the top of the list). If they were ever to bring it to feature/ TV, I would rather it be about significant parts of TES lore that you can only read about in the in-game books as opposed to trying to tackle the games themselves. The plot of a game adapted movie would be at odds w/ w/e decisions we players made in our own games.

I would be down for some novelizations though, I just downloaded a sample of the Infernal City.
 
No, for the same reason I'm against having a Mass Effect movie. The great thing about these games is doing things the way I want to do them. I'm really not interested in seeing someone else's Dragonborn (or Champion of Cyrodiil, or Nerevarine) in a movie. The only time I think it's acceptable to make a movie from a video game is if the story is set (like I'd love a LoZ Twilight Princess movie).
 
Even if it wouldn't work, someone is bound to test their hand at making a story of the series. One or more films are just bound to be made unless they can't get the rights (Bethesda refusing to let them for various reasons).
 
I think that because of the diversity of choice Skyrim offers, a movie about one character (maybe Dragonborn) wouldn't work. Then, while a movie about perhaps the second Great War or something COULD work, that would mean that the experience of another Great War would be unavailable to players.
 
The only way I could see it working is if they did a t.v. show similar to Merlin. It would work by having a Nord Dragonborn (I think a Nord or Imperial is the only way to go, having an Argonian or Khajit as the main character could turn some people off), then have each one hour episode be one quest of the main quest line. The build of the character would most probably be an all round general build able to use a sword/bow, some magic and can sneak if needed to. If the first season is successful then they could return with a different character and focus on the other guilds quest line's like Dark Brotherhood, Thieves Guild, or College of Winterhold. A t.v. show would be the only way to do the world of Skyrim and the lore justice.

I like how this sounds because I was thinking close to the same thing :D I feel like instead of having a main derp character that is semi-good at everything, it'd be way cooler to delve into different characters each time for each guild. This way, everyone can see their favorite play-style.
 
They could also show each character as they grow up with "aging" scenes that give reasoning as to why they chose the path they did. Maybe the Dark Brotherhood story is an Argonian shadow-scale, they could show their first kill and their initiation to being a shadow-scale/member of the Dark Brotherhood. Idk, I'm just throwing out ideas haha. Either way, you know whoever makes the movie will still get decent numbers opening night because of all TES fans and it being over-hyped, which makes it seem like an inevitability.
 
While I would love to see a movie about MY character, because I'm just arrogant and full of myself, I can see how a movie, even a franchise, would have too big of a potential for failure. There's just waaaay too much going on in the quests, too much lore, too much possible variation for main characters, and in the end each movie will wind up being a drawn-out 5 hours and when it releases on Blu Ray will have 15 hours of cut footage. I love TES, but even that makes me wanna use the discs as coasters...
