ESO's Vampire Lord actually makes Dawnguard's version look weak

I've been doing a vampire playthrough in ESO and honestly it's making me reconsider how good Dawnguard's vampire perks actually are. Like, in Skyrim you get the Lord form and some passive bonuses but that's kind of it. ESO's vampire stuff feels so much more integrated into actual gameplay - you're dealing with stage progression, feeding mechanics that matter, actual skill lines that branch out.

Don't get me wrong, Dawnguard's vampire lord form is cool and the whole questline is solid, but the actual vampire gameplay in Skyrim is way more limited. You turn into a bat, you get some damage bonuses, and then what? ESO makes you feel like you're actually playing a different character class with real depth.

Has anyone else felt this way or am I just nostalgic for ESO's systems right now? I'm curious if people think Skyrim's vampire stuff holds up better than I'm giving it credit for.

I think you're comparing two pretty different design philosophies here. ESO's vampire is a full alternate progression system because it's an MMO where you need horizontal grind and long-term engagement. Skyrim's Dawnguard vampire is bolted onto a single-player game where you're already the Dragonborn doing everything else.

That said, you're right that Skyrim's vampire stuff is more of a novelty than a lifestyle. The Lord form is genuinely cool for like ten minutes, the drain spells are situational, and stage 4 hunger is mostly just annoying rather than a meaningful mechanic. The feeding itself is clunky - sneaking into someone's bedroom at 3am to bite them gets old fast. ESO's feeding actually ties into combat and feels purposeful.

But here's where I'd push back a bit: Skyrim's vampire questline itself (Harkon, Serana, the whole Volkihar thing) is way more integrated into the actual story than ESO's vampire content. The DLC gives you a real narrative reason to be a vampire, not just "here's another skill tree." And the Necromage perk, if you're willing to commit to being a vampire permanently, actually breaks some builds in half - it's one of the most powerful perks in the game when you stack it with Restoration potions or certain spell builds.

I'd say they're good at different things rather than one being objectively better. ESO wins on systems depth, Skyrim wins on narrative and the fact that being a vampire actually changes how people treat you in the world (guards hunt you, people recognize you, you can't go out in daylight without consequences). ESO's vampire is mechanically richer but also feels more like a job. Skyrim's is more of a roleplay commitment.
