I'm working on a multi-chapter fic where my OC enters the Thieves Guild not because she's desperate or noble-hearted, but because she's genuinely bored and likes the thrill of it. Not edgelord stuff, just... she's restless and theft scratches an itch. Problem is, once she's in deep with Delvin and Vex and the actual guild politics, I'm struggling to keep her motivations consistent without making her either a cartoon villain or suddenly sympathetic in ways that feel cheap. How do you balance a character who starts selfish or frivolous without them becoming likeable by accident, or worse, staying flat the whole way through?
