I'm working on a character study fic about a Nord who joins the Companions, but I want to spend real time on her settling into Jorrvaskr, learning the routine, bonding with Vilkas and Farkas before the bigger plot kicks in. Problem is, I'm worried those early chapters will feel slow or pointless to readers if there's no quest resolution or major conflict. How do you keep people invested when the "action" is just someone getting used to a new life? Should I be weaving in smaller character moments instead, or am I overthinking this?
