The guy that you can find outside of Ambarys Rendar's inn says that his views are a little bit extreme. He isn't a good man to use for generalization.

And, sorry for this extra post, the Dark Elves, as your picture states, are saving up for their departure. They don't want to stay. If the they could leave, they would have. The fact of the matter is that the locals and the nords do not pay the Dark Elves fairly. The nords don't go to the inn, the nords don't do the labor. The Elves do, and are not paid enough to leave. They are trapped by the people who want them to leave.

Apparently he has enough resources to move back to morrowind, yet he wants to return living like a king.

If he doesn't care about the nord women being murdered then why should the nords care about the their living conditions?

They have to trek across the wilderness in possibly sub-zero tempretures hauling thier belongings on horseback or in a wagon. On a journey that could potentially take days or weks into friendly Imperial territory.

Also what he said does not in any way indicate that he has the resources to move to Morrowind. All you know is he wants to move back with the money he makes.

This is an idiotic response. Sorry there's no other way to characterize it. It's not a rumor that the Dunmer all live in the Grey Quarter, it's a fact. We have disinterested statements by 2 NPC's that they're quartered there by design of the State. We have no statements from any NPC to contradict this. Not even statements that allow the possibility by drawing the wildest of inferences.

We know from the overall Civil War content and the content of the quest In My Time of Need that if Bethesda wants ambiguity about an issue, it will place content in the game to create that ambiguity. If the statements asserting that the Dunmer are segregated to the Grey Quarter by the State were rumors Bethesda would have placed some kind of evidence in the game to refute them, but it didn't because it wanted to make the Dunmer's situation clear and unambiguous regarding their living conditions. Before you attempt to counter by saying since you can't get Ulfric's side of the story you can't know if it's true, be informed that appealing to ignorance is a classic fallacy of inductive logic and therefore a completely invalid defense of your position.

Segregation exists in Windhelm regardless of your blind unwillingness to accept that fact. It also defies common sense that not a single Dunmer has ever decided to live somewhere else in Windhelm in almost two hundred years, especially given how lousy the living conditions are in the Grey Quarter. Belyn Hlaalu is a successful farmer yet he still has to live in the Grey Quarter.

What about the nanny? What about the bard?

Luafyn works in Candlehearth Hall, she doesn't live there. It's somewhat mind boggling when people point to a Dunmer nanny as proof that segregation doesn't exist. That's like pointing to the hired black house staff that resided in the house of upper class whites (for the convenience of their employers for those that are too dense to get that) in the segregated south of the United States in the early 20th century as proof that there was no segregation in the south which, of course, is a counterargument without merit.

Comparing your living situation in the modern world is like comparing a Concord Jet to Rickshaw. Picking up everything you have and relocating is exponentially more difficult to do in Tamriel than it is in your world. Let me put it this way. Would you relocate to another part of the world without a job or a place to stay or any knowledge of what the living conditions or the employment situation is there? Would you do it after having lived in a place for over 20 years of your life forging deep and meaningful professional and personal relationships where you are now? Would you do it if it meant leaving family behind? Would you do it if you were told you could never use a phone, cellphone, the internet or even the postal system to ever communicate with anyone you know including your family, and all those people you had formed personal and professional relationships over decades? Would you do it if you had to travel hundreds of miles on foot with the risk of being robbed of everything you have or killed along the way? These are things that have to be considered if you are just going to up and leave Windhelm for parts unknown in Tamriel. It's nothing like your comparatively spoiled privileged life in your warm safe personal bubble that is the real world.

Don't tell me that hes poor and unable to afford to move out because that would be incorrect. I'm sure hes making a decent amount of money doing what he does as a pawn broker.

Anyway, first things first. The Khajit have guards. They come from an organized company and source. If Ulfric could send them away that easily, why the hell wouldn't he? Are you not arguing that the dark elves want to get out there, as referenced in your previous posts?

Second, that guy owns an inn. He only makes money from the Dunmer, and the dunmer make very little money. He wants to leave as much as anyone else, but the nords are too cheap to pay them to get them out.

Third, they are treated like they crawled out of a sewer. Did you see those two nords harassing that woman at the gate? Replace the word gray-skin with sewer monster. Ta 'da!

Your point about the caravans holds no ground. The caravans exist specifically so that they can travel and sell thier wares. That is thier job. They are prepared for it. They know what they are doing. They have guards. They have food and supplies. A steady source of profit to fund thier travels. A shopkeeper who packs up and leaves his city on a cross-country trip will not have any of these.

I could say that you should be able to pick up a gun and fight as well as any soldier without any previous experience or training. But I would be wrong. Wouldn't I?

As they do to the rest of the elves. So yes I do have proof. You did see the two men more or less threatening to torture the dark elf lady at the gates when you first walk in right?

Nice use of the Latin there - I'm a Roman historian and Latinist. I can appreciate me some Latin. Though it should be said that not all Romans found that line to be a good or acceptable thing. At the time that Cicero (who is the likely author of this quote) wrote this, it was a time of ferocious mob violence in the political arena of Rome. Late Republic era insanity and all that. Not exactly a shining example for emulation.

Once again, in Rolff's case, it IS at least partially about their race. If he was only concerned with their not joining the Stormcloaks (because, let's face it, if they sided Imperial, he'd be on their case to leave Windhelm forthwith), then he'd be berating outside the homes of Nords and anyone else who also did not take a side, or who sided against Ulfric. From what we see in the game, he does not concern himself with anyone but Dunmer whom he himself admits he finds suspicious, not to mention lazy. He's very singularly minded.
