Who has the saddest backstory?

I personally think it's Savos Aren.

spoiler alert

He had to get through Labyrinthian while watching his comrades be picked off, one by one, before narrowly escaping and sealing the place off. Then he was awarded the title of Arch-Mage, which he almost certainly did not think he deserved. So he had to live with that for the rest of his life, all while being treated like royalty in the college. It's emotional turmoil.

But what do you guys think?
 
The little girl in Rorikkstead Sissel. She gets verbally and physically abused by her sister and father.
 
The Dragonborn, he becomes Arch-Mage, slays Alduin, Destroys the Dark Brootherhood once and for all and yet was arrested and forced to pay a bounty on one occasion for accidentally stealing a purple Mountain Flower inside a Inn. Then later on that day he defender the City of Solitude from a Dragon attack, unfortunately his fireball spell caused some area damage and just about touched one of the city guards, again he was arrested, even though a dragon was wreaking havoc.

Poor guy. :(
 
The four street kids of Hearthfire really pull at the old tear ducts.

"My mother died. I miss her so much. My aunt and uncle threw me out of our farm because they said I was no use. Now I beg for a drunk old beggar."
"My mother died when I was very young. I don't remember her. My father was a Stormcloak. One day he left and didn't come back. Now I sell flowers so I can buy food."
"My parents were Imperial soldiers. There was an ambush. Katla said she'd feed me if I made myself useful, so now I'm basically a child slave who wants a real home and family.
"My father was a sailor and got sick so we got kicked off the boat, then he died. Now I spend all day running back and forth between the mines so they'll let me sleep by the fire at night.'

Bethesda, Y U give us a limit of two children?! Thank goodness for the modding community.

Yeah, you think they would have said something. I made my first two houses with child's bedrooms before I found out the 2 kid limit.
 
Cicero. So many feels when I read his journals.

Witnessed the fall of two DB Sanctuaries, and all of his Brothers and Sisters die off horribly until he's the only one left in Cheydinhal. Then he slowly goes mad as months pass with no one but the Night Mother's corpse for company, and the memory of his last contract, which manifests into a 'laughter' that constantly rings in his head until it drives him completely nuts. He still stays loyal and painstakingly preserves the Night Mother's remains, then travels all the way to Skyrim alone, hoping to find another Sanctuary to help rebuild, only to be treated like a fool and outsider by the paranoid leader of this "new" Dark Brotherhood that has completely abandoned everything that separates the DB from common bandits that kill for money, who ultimately tries to kill him for wanting to preserve the Tenets.

actully i dont think she died, ((possible spoiler)) i forgot her name as of now but noticed when i was vampire lord of volkihar keep the warrior vampire chick shares the same name as the solitudes daughter. would make sense to. crawled off trying to survive.....vampire found her.... not to mention the vampire is a WARRIOR that and shes undead. cheated death though vampirism
 
Paarthurnax.

Not sure if he's worthy of unconditional pity, and I'm certainly not addressing his backstory, but he is bound to be killed by the dragons if the dragonborn doesn't decide to kill him, which makes me kinda sad, but also reminds me that amongs plenty of dragons, The Way Of The Voice has no place, and thus Paarthurnax will die.
