I'm on my 5th playthrough and I just hit level 35 with destruction, and it's genuinely unplayable now. Frost and shock spells barely tickle anything that isn't a mage, and fire is only good against undead which is like 20% of the game. Meanwhile my sword-and-board character at the same level is just melting everything.
I've tried stacking perks. I've got the damage boost perks, the one that staggers enemies, the cost reduction stuff. It doesn't matter. A master-level spell costs like 800 magicka and deals less damage than my dagger with a decent enchant. The scaling is completely broken.
And before anyone says "just use Ordinator" - yeah I know, but we're talking about vanilla here. In vanilla, destruction is a trap skill that makes you think you're doing something until you realize you'd be better off just quicksaving and yeeting yourself off a cliff. Conjuration at least summons meat shields. Restoration keeps you alive. Destruction just... doesn't work.
Does anyone else run destruction on higher difficulties or am I just bad at this?
