I just hit Solstheim in ESO and honestly I'm kind of thrown off. Like, I know it's set like a thousand years before Skyrim, but the whole vibe is just... different? In Dragonborn you've got this harsh, volcanic Nordic colony mixed with Dunmer refugees and Daedric corruption everywhere. It feels genuinely alien and hostile.
ESO's version feels way more like a standard fantasy zone. The Dunmer are there, sure, but it doesn't have that same sense of dread or isolation. And Apocrypha - which is the most terrifying part of Dragonborn imo - just doesn't hit the same way when you're actually exploring it in ESO. The lore explanation probably makes sense but it's weird seeing one of my favorite DLC locations feel so sanitized.
Does anyone else who's played both feel this way? Or am I just nostalgic for the Dragonborn version and being unfair to ESO's take on it?
