I've been thinking about this a lot on my current run. Everyone defaults to Warrior/Thief/Mage depending on their build, but the Atronach Stone actually solves more problems in the first 10 hours than any of them do.
You get 50% magic absorption. That's it. That's the whole thing. But early game? You're getting blasted by mages in every other dungeon and your magicka pool is tiny if you're not a pure caster. One Fireball from a Necromancer and you're chugging potions. With the Atronach Stone, you just... don't take that damage. Half of it goes away before you even feel it.
Plus the magicka regen penalty doesn't matter when you're not relying on spells anyway. And if you ARE doing magic, you're probably not swapping stones mid-playthrough, so you eat the penalty and adapt your playstyle around it.
I'm not saying it's better than Warrior for a sword-and-board guy or Thief for a stealth archer. But for hybrid builds, or for anyone doing their second or third playthrough and just experimenting? It trivializes so much early-game jank that you'd normally solve with better gear or leveling Restoration. You can just... ignore mages. Walk through their spells.
What's your early-game stone pick usually? I'm curious if I'm just discovering something everyone else already knew.
