The "I hate The Catholic Church" Thread

For me, it's not so much the faith that I dislike. I believe that following many of the Bible's teachings could lead to good deeds. However, the idea of treating faith like some government doesn't sit well with me. If heaven is the true authority, why should God care which church I join? And more importantly, why should I listen to mere mortals? Spiritual health and good living should be just as possible as an individual.
Also, I believe that even the faithful are vulnerable to basic flaws, and the Catholic Church can enforce mob mentality. Organized religion has led to travesties like the witch hunts across Europe. The Crusades in the Middle East and Manifist Destiny. It led to the hangings in Salem and the murder of Matthew Shepard and many like him. For a time, dark skin was considered the Mark of Cain. Although I don't believe Christianity is the real cause of these regrettable actions, I believe society, and the encouragment of absolut faith, can corrupt its teachings.

No. they just follow their tradition. beside they don't harm anyone so let them to practice their tradition as they wish.

People were burned to death in their name. They've taught hatred against homosexuals for centuries. It's possible for anyone to do good things, but you'd be surprised what becomes acceptable when 'God' says it's okay.

So the new Pope Francis vows to protect 'poor and weak' eh? I wonder how many people actually believe in this bullplops lie? I can't possibly see him selling off the churches prize possessions in order to start taking care of the poor people around the world.

Moar bullplops and lies coming from the catholic church... Oh and Pope! Why don't your churches start paying taxes like the rest of us!?!!? It would most certainly help the poor and the needy people out there.

I could probably say this about individuals practicing their religion in privacy.

But given how the catholic church perpetuates immoral values, attacks minorities, protects sex-offenders and demonizes science, technology and education, I'd say they are quite the blight on humanity.

It's their belief they don't attack anyone they just solely express their view.
now as an example they believe homosexuality is a sin ,saying that doesn't make them attackers. they just express what their honestly believe. people have a right to bear opinions.

I'm not Catholic, but I'm not going to hate the Church because I don't agree with a lot of its views or the way it operates. Sure, there are some questionable acts and stuff affiliated with it, but thats the same with nearly every sect of religion (Islam, Judaism, etc, etc), so I'm not going to generalize. Everyone is entitled to his/her own beliefs without persecution, whether it's from religious folks or atheists or agnostics (like myself). Ironically, I know just as many atheists who are just as narrow-minded and intolerant as I know religious people who are the same way.

Actually, the Catholic Church is one of the most, if not the biggest, charitable organizations in the world. Just saying.

Except the Catholic church teaches people that birth control is wrong, that using condoms is wrong, that being homosexual is wrong, that abortion is wrong. Which leads to unwanted pregnancies, unwanted children, STDs, HIV, and less orphans being adopted because homosexuals are to scared to start a family out of being ridiculed. fluff yeah they should give to the poor, they help raise poverty in the world.

I agree with you, but I'm not going to say they're necessarily "evil" for believing what they do. To each his/her own as long as it doesn't violate the "separation of church and state" clause in the Constitution, in my opinion.

Again, these are not people privately holding their beliefs, this is an institution which uses incredible amounts of money and influence to pursue agendas that hurt people, they are responsible for much of the hate and prejudice against homosexuals, they are responsible for the misconceptions and mistreatment agains women worldwide, they are responsible for the prejudice and misunderstanding in scientific endeavors and the benefits of education, they are responsible the protection of sex offenders over several countries, they are responsible for the proliferation of AIDS in Africa.

All of this is not to say that they are guilty, or that they are the main perpetrators, however, their actions (which are certainly not passive) influence the rationale and some do unto others, this isn't a matter of belief, this is a matter of the misuse of power and influence.

I'd be lying if I said I don't agree with you, but I'm reluctant to paint the entire Church with a broad brush. As for power and money, of course they're going to have plenty of it - there are one billion+ members of the Church, why is this a surprise? I'm not saying we who don't believe in Catholicism (or any other religion or sect) should be apathetic and not fight for the things we believe in regarding gay rights, etc, but at least be respectful of their RIGHT to believe in whatever they do.

I'm not painting anyone with a broad brush or labeling anyone as "evil", does the Chatholic Church not stand for what I've said ? Or are there some liberal cardinals out there I haven't heard of ?

And it doesn't matter wether they have or don't have money, what matters is how they use it, and how they apply their power as a relevant, influential institution, and what do they do ? Spread hate, misunderstanding, ignorance, disease and violence.

The Catholic Church is quite simply a deplorable institution that shouldn't exist anymore, their right to whatever beliefs they may have, which is also as valid as the right of people in Africa to not die of AIDS, the right of women to control their own reproductive life, the right of victims to seek justice for sexual abuse, and the right for everyone to receive proper education and to know the merits of science.

Saying the Catholic Church shouldn't exist anymore pretty much goes against every facet of religious freedom ever. I don't agree with much of their platform or how some things are done, but I'm not going to go all extremist by saying it should fluff off. Every major religion has its beauty and every major religion has its downfalls, but doing away with them because you or anybody else doesn't like it is ridiculous.

None of the sort, I'm not arguing for the catholic religion to be expunged from society, nor am I arguing for governments to take action and dismantle the catholic church, I am arguing for a future pope, to one day go up St. Peter's balcony, and say:

This...is over.

If that is somehow being an extremist (which it isn't), then I'd rather be in that position than to actively brush away all the sins (none of them menial) that the church has committed, and which you seem rather keen on ignoring.

so basically you meant rich and powerful people can't hold their own beliefs? and they also have to admit everything in the society to calm down every single person? NO. it's their money so they have a right to do whatever they want with their money. if someone does a crime then punish him instead of bashing to the entire their religion.
so I don't agree with you. I think you just hate them that's your problem. you hate them because they don't like homosexuals. and you want them to admit homosexuality is fine. so basically you want to change their belief. you can't change how other people think. all you can do avoid them and change how you think.

if they don't like homosexuals fine then homosexuals shouldn't hang out with them , if they don't like women then women shouldn't hang out with them (I am a Buddhist and a girl so I don't hang out religions that discriminate women, I meant if a religion discriminates you why the heck are you still doing in that religion? just drop it and find something else. you can drop it but changing is something else, you don't have a right to change something else because it is against your belief.) if they don't like science then science shouldn't be brought upon them and students should not be sent them to teach whatever religious gibberish. if they protect sex offenders then punish those who protect sex offenders, and if they are responsible for proliferation AIDS in Africa then ban them going in Africa.
