Imperials or Stormcloaks, what one?

High King Torygg was not corrupt, he was well loved by his subjects who knew him. He was only High King for a very short time, he was young and in love, yet people like you say he is bad because he showed affection to his lover. Is it bad to treat someone you love like they're the world to you? He wasn't a grumpy cold bastard.

High King Toygg was in deed corrupted by Imperial coin. We can keep arguing it until the cows come home. I could imagine how much Septims the Empire was shipping over to Torygg to be on their side. It's been proven that the Empire was shipping chests of gold to the Jarls from each hold to make them happy. Loving his wife does not give him the exemption to ignore what was going on in his land. The only man that knew exactly what was going on was Ulfric. He praised his father, but not him. Skyrim is a very harsh place to live in, and that's a pure fact right there. If the High King isn't doing a good job he either quits (which is non-existence since his pride would be tarnished) or fight to the death to keep his title and position as High King. Torygg was young and immature. His people call him a BOY... that is not showing respect for your king but rather disrespectful.

Torygg would be a grumpy cold bastard if he experienced what Ulfric had... to be brutally tortured by the Aldmeri Dominion, and to witness death of many in the Great war.

"I fight for the men I've held in my arms, dying on foreign soil. I fight for their wives and children, who's names I heard whispered in their last breaths. I fight for we few who did come home, only to find our country full of strangers wearing familiar faces. I fight for my people impoverished to pay the debts of an Empire too weak to rule them, yet brands them criminals for wanting to rule themselves! I fight so that all the fighting I've already done hasn't been for nothing. I fight... because I must." - Ulfric Stormcloak

I didn't realize King's lived in the poor house with no money. He was the High King of Skyrim, Imperial coin is all there is. I don't see Ulfric complaining when he's accepting Imperial coin for a house in Windhelm. The Jarls are nobles and a part of the Government in Skyrim, should they rule with no money? If the Empire wasn't sending gold then I would worry. What was going on in his land? With the Thalmor? They've been in Skyrim for 26 years, they didn't just hop off the boat. The High King was respected within Solitude by many, I don't know what you think a King does, but it doesn't make him bad for being a King with money. You think Ulfric would turn down gold? Doesn't make you corrupt for getting money for your position, they can spend that money how they want, it's their money. Would you call someone corrupt for accepting a paycheck for their job?

They were given chests of gold in the aftermath of the Great War, I'm sure people of High Rock and Counts in Cyrodiil were probably given gold also. The war affected everyone, a cash injection after a war to keep the people fed isn't bad. I didn't hear about Windhelm being so high standard rejecting the gold.

One man called him boy, he wasn't a Jarl nor was he even a Nord, but Whiterun's Steward. People of Skyrim also call Ulfric Stormcloak murderer and usurper, that doesn't exactly scream loving affection. One man called Torygg a boy, half of Skyrim calls Ulfric a murderer.

The boy thing probably has something to do with the Skyrim tradition of man hood, the coming of age type thing. Where young boys go off and hunt an ice wraith to become a man. Some of the Jarls/people of Skyrim still practice the old ways. Especially in places like Windhelm, Dawnstar etc.

I'm now playing a Nord barabarian who's on the Stormcloak's side who's fallen in love with Ulfric (I have a mod that lets me marry Ulfric.) let me tell you, my love for the Empire has dwindled since deciding to join Ulfric's side.

Any special reasons for that :)

Because I see the struggle that the Nords have, and I admire their stand against tyrants and their puppets. Of course the Empire had no choice but at least die with honor rather than letting a bunch of tyrannical elves kill innocent people.

"Spoken like a true Nord"

Considering the fact that you admitted on the SB other night ago that Windhelm looked like a third world country further proves that Ulfric refuses to be showered with Imperial coin. It's simply not his nature to do so. Look at the difference between Solitude and Windhelm. Torygg was being heavily indulged with the luxury of Imperial coin. It explains why he did not want to act out thus making Skyrim as an independent state... because had he perused it would mean that he would no longer receive the Empires gold.

I'm starting to think that Emperor Titus Mede II was nothing more than a hardcore Liberal with no traces of conservative in his veins, and thats not exactly a good thing either. Titus Mede II is an exact definition of “bribery”. “I'm sorry we failed you, but if you still stand beside me I will shower you with my Empire gold”.

The man that called him a boy was an Imperial Steward from Whiterun. According to uesp the Empire and a number of the Jarls, however, viewed the killing of Torygg not as the result of an honorable duel, but as murder, due to the fact that Torygg was of a young age while Ulfric was at his prime. People called Ulfric a murderer simply because Torygg was young (A boy) and weak, and they thought that the fight was not properly matched since Ulfric was at his prime.

It's interesting, despite my latest playthrough - a Stormcloak one - I'm hating Ulfric and Galmar even MORE. :D

Ulfric and Galmar are awesome. How can you hate on 'em like that?

It's obvious that you're bias about a weaken Empire who bribes people of gold so they can stay on their side.

One can also admire the struggle that the Nords have in their stand against an egomaniacal intolerant usurper who doesn't need a bunch of tyrannical elves to kill innocent people as he's quite proficient at doing it himself. See what I did there? :p

Ulfric wasn't Jarl when the chests of gold came, the differences between Solitude and Windhelm is Solitude continues to make money as it spends, Ulfric has probably been Jarl for many years now. His stockpiles are empty and his city has started to fall apart, a city that old would need constant repair. He hasn't been Imperial friendly for quite sometime, not hostile but he had been trying to rally people to his cause for ages before he killed High King Torygg. Considering his views during Torygg's moot, I guess he was gathering forces during Torygg's fathers reign. The gold was accepted by all the Jarls, if it wasn't it would be mentioned. You still don't understand Skyrim politics do you? The Holds are all largely independent, Torygg can't exactly go independent without the support of his Jarls, Ulfric wouldn't ask him. If Ulfric had simply asked him, instead of playing the what if game.

Titus Mede II has the power of Veto in Empire politics, if anyone sent chests of gold to another province it would of been the Elder Council. Stop putting all your blame on Titus Mede II, his actions during the Great War is what saved the Empire, people wanted the war to end. Nord Legionnaires wanted to return home, everyone was tired and they couldn't fight on with the forces remaining. They had no idea what Thalmor remained, they didn't know if they had an advantage or not. Their intelligence force was destroyed, so you're asking an army that is under half strength to fight on blind? With no way of knowing if another Thalmor army is coming to attack Cyrodiil. Titus Mede II saved the Empire, his actions during the Great War were amazing, you however dislike him because you're lacking any strategic sense and abuse the Empire over any excuse you can think of.

It doesn't matter if he's an Imperial, he's lived in Whiterun all his life. You have to understand that the rest of the Empire have really no idea what is happening in Skyrim, when you start a new game and are asking questions you find that no one has any clue from Cyrodiil, so unless you're probably in High station or a General in the Legion. I don't think the rest of the Empire including High Rock, gives a plops about what Skyrim is doing.

Because I got to hear more of their alliance-specific dialogue, as well as just got to see more of their personalities and rationale for what they're doing. And, I found the attack on Whiterun, among other things, to be despicable. Skyrim is not as happy when the Stormies take over.

Actually, no. It's obvious you're biased toward the personal crusade of an egomaniacal ex-Legionnaire who wants more than anything for his name to go down in history.

And it's actually quite easy to hate Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. If you haven't noticed, I'm not hardly the only one. Even plenty of Stormcloak supporters hate them.

Ooh, you go girlfriend, Mmmhmm.
